Classified ads, what do you guys/gals think?

I was flipping through the classifieds the other day (not on here), and was looking through some of them, and there were a few that had some pictures of the boat getting some major air and such. I realize it doesnt really hurt the boat to do this for the most part, but do you think people are detered from seeing this, thinking the boat has been beat on, or do you think people are thinking its pretty darn cool, and gets them more excitied to look at a boat? Just wondering what your take is on it.

Good question...Its funny how when you look through ads for dirtbikes, quads and such, it often says "never raced". Just because something is not raced, doesn't mean the person doesn't beat the snot out of it, so you never really know regardless. But as far as boats, I would say if the person is knowlegable about boats, they probably wouldn't care, but someone knowing nothing about performance boats may frown on it. I guess it depends if its an Apache or a Fountain :D ...JUST KIDDING...lets not start that again.

That is a good question. For me, I would look at the sellers "other" stuff, like his car(s), house, etc.... that will give you a good indication if they take care of their stuff or if they just made the selling item look good just to sell.

Thats seems to be a good rule of thumb when looking at something is to take inventory of the surroundings to see how well other things are maintained.

I know I lost sales because of this photo alone!

Everytime I went to sell a red Bullet they thought it was my personal boat.

Or if someone asked about buying one of my boats some people would respond," I wouldn't buy one of his boats. He beats the hell out of them in the ocean!"

Obviously those people missed the point!

The boats still came back in one piece!

There is one OSO member on here that knew that all too well and went ahead and bought my Shark Wave from someone that didn't realize what he had.... :drink:

Thats exactly what I was wondering, and apparently some people look at these pics the wrong way and assume that they are just beat to crap when they get air.

Probably the best pic to use would be one running flat out with the last few feet of the boat in the water or at anchor.

One thing, if the boat is in the air, you can put the fear factor into the wife and she will blow the sale for you!

Re: Classified ads, what do you guys/gals think?

It all comes down to the overall condition of the boat.

Why do we buy offshore performance boats?

To go fast in rough conditions. You will air them out.

I do not know of any brands that are bad or break in half when you air them out. You can look at a boat and drive it and know right away if it is a tough built strong boat or if it is falling apart and has stress cracks. Then with that and a survey you will know what you are getting.

Nothing wrong with a good air shot, and that does not have an overall effect on me buying a boat. I thought that is what they were built to do.

A boat is what it is.
