Default Decent GPS Unit??? How Much?

I am hoping to learn more about GPS units and what I can expect to pay.

I have seen those really nice full color ones that allow you to buy a program that includes the local waters.

What do these cost and can someone recommend a good one? I am hoping to spend in the $1000 range, or cheaper if that is even possible.

I am all ears. Anyone love theirs? Lets hear some details

Look at the Lowrance 3600c. Its a good GPS and you can get it for 499.00 .
You will need the Nautic Path chip for 99.00 that covers the entire US coastlines. Or you will need the LEI Fishing Hotspots (99.00) which will give you major lake info for your area.

I just bought and installed the Garmin 3205...I absolutely love it. This is one of the ones you're talking about that comes pre-loaded with all the charts...everywhere. It also comes with a dash mount kit. It does everything but jerk you off while your driving. The next one up is the 3206, but I think the only major difference is that it has 3 video outputs so that you can mount cameras in the bilge, back of the boat, etc, but I think its like a grand more. I got the 3205 at www.gpsdicount.com I think it was $949.00

Garmin 276C or 376C. Can upload all maps, can interchange from boat to truck.

I have that one and like it a lot! Due to limited dash space, it was the smallest one I could find that was clear.

I miss my old Garmin though, it was a 2006C!

Plenty of recommendations!!!

I guess I am going to check them all out, see what the Amazon reviews look like, and get one.

Thanks everyone!

The SBRT crew will be able to help you out with that, judging from their posts.

Ha Ha! I don't really even know who is who, but I can imagine that was a nice low blow that hurt!!

Seems like the Garmin 276 and 376 are damn near similar, while the 478 is REALLY NICE.

Anyone have the Garmin 478? Seems like it doesn't even need maps loaded, and all the map info is pulled directly from the sky, and can be used in the car. Just wondering if I should spend less and get a 276 or 376

I looked at the 376 and 478. The only differance from those and the 276, is that they can interface with xm weather (for $49/month) for an overlay and can use a digital depth sounder (about $500). The 478 also can use the new BlueChart 2g maps. I couldn't see spending an extra $5-700 for something I wouldn't use. The 478 comes preloaded with maps, but you can buy the CD for $100 and a 512mg memory card is $100. I use 2 cards and have the North American DVD loaded on one card and all the BlueCharts loaded on the other.
