I missed the jetty but hit the sandbar one night.......not much fun (same spot). I feel for the driver and passengers and am glad all is ok.

the driver and his crew do have a degree of responsibility. if you can't see where you're going, your GPS is not functioning properly and you're not picking up any markers, then common sense should tell you to slow down to idle and even stop completely until you get some sense of orientation.

It was a mistake to keep running at speed but hey, people in general have made mistakes, are making them and will continue to make them. Error is human and that is why nobody should judge this crew in a way that some did.

What is however inexcusable is making the same mistake over and over again. That is plain stupid and careless. And that is exactly what the authorities have done by allowing 8 similar accidents to occur in 3 years. This is why I would be much harsher in my assessment of the way authorities have acted in this case. Whether that jetty is properly marked should already have been investigated after the 1st accident, let alone the 2nd, 3rd, etc. And let's not even mention the release of unverified information to the press. Very disappointing and unprofessional from people who should be showing others how it's done...

I dont know what the hell a Jetty is, but after being hit at least 8 different times (and who knows how many close calls), I think the damn thing should probably be lit up a bit more. Pretty complicated solution, but it may save a life or two.

Amen, my sentiments exactly, I kept my big boat at stirling harbor yacht club for a month a few years back and went in and out of the jetty's west channel 3 or 4 times a day and nite. One night in particular it was inky black ,the sky and water were indistiguishable. I have every electronic device you can put on a boat. Every time I checked the radar, plotter or GPS I was blinded for a moment. I didnt hit the jetty but was closer then I would have liked to have been. It was in fact the nite JFK Jr. crashed into the Sound a few miles away also a tragic accident. Also I have a reccomendation for the 200million watt flood light user's. Pull down your pants and shine it up your anus so the beam shoots out your eye balls like x-ray vision, and dont burn my eye sockets please. Thank god all the people involved are recouperating, a little girl on the south shore wasn't so lucky, and the bwi thing is rearing it's head again. I pray for her family.

you might change that last statement if you were the one involved in said accident, you might not have gotten over it yet!

You must have some special pornographic black light that doesn't blind the other boaters but helps you see through there clothes lol Some times there helpful in the situation you described especially when there used in a courteous manner, I stand corrected.
