How about mandatory training for all pwc'ers? That might be aiming straight at one of the biggest issues. And we have 3pwc's on lifts at our docks and I own 2 personally, so I have nothing against them. There's just too much randomness in their operation by too many drivers.
In MO, if you're over the minimum age to ride one but born after a particular date (1985 or so? pardon me, i don't have the info handy), you have to pass a written/online course. We make sure all the kids in our family do so and we drill safe/smart riding into their heads. The last thing I want any of our family to be is a part of the problem or, worse, injured/killed. |

What bothers me is the comment associating large boats
with large wakes. A lot of my small boat buddies tell me our big performance boats do not leave huge wakes. Wakeboard boats are the worst. Semi displacement cruising is probably next. Pesky Varmint Compared to these enormous cruisers plowing water throwing off huge waves, a wake boat is nothing. But they are #2 on the offender list for sure. |

This was back in 2006. It is a bit like comparing home values, Dot Coms, 1st gen Ipods, the Microsoft Zume (the Ipod killer), ect. from 2006. To have any kind of credibility at all (besides just trashing to trash), find something a bit newer. The lake is ALOT different than it was in 2006.

Here's a review to stir the pot. And it was still called the 3rd most dangerous waterway in 2009 behind only the Colorado River and the Atlantic Ocean.
Don't use the lake at Lake of the Ozarks” 1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2010 4 people found this review helpful Everything on land is great, but don't go near the water. Between E Coli, 200 mph off shore racers, and huge 6' wakes you will be lucky to get out of the lake with minor injuries. On the water is no place for the family. You will be sorry you came with Just a five minute ride in the main channel. The 60' Yachts being Captained by people that don't know boating rules, the effect of their huge wakes, or who just don't care what happens to others will make a believer out of you. Now if you want to just party in the World Famous Party Cove, and be drenched in E Coli filled water, or swim in it come on down. Get drunk, and be somebody. :daz: |
To be honest, I am surprised at the lax laws concerning BUI up there. Here they'll hammer you just like you were in a motor vehicle, take your drivers license, pilots licence, and fine the chit out of you!

Just to put things in perspective........the high ecoli levels at LOTO are usually only present in the Spring and are in very localized in spots. The high levels are caused by geese (poop) and heavy Spring rains that wash the contaminants into the lake.
