Not sure tbl ... They mentioned afterburners, but didn't mention anything like desc. rocket assist on take off ... I'm not too familiar with the planes, technology, or terms and not really sure if there's a difference in terms

I saw that at Lakewood a few years ago. The Blue Angels support C130 has 8 ROCKETs - 4 on each side to assist with veritical take offs. Pretty cool, but in A/C the airport is a few miles away from where they did the show over the beach.

This will be the last year for Fat Albert the Blue Angels C-130 Transport plane to use JATO (Jet Assisted Take Off). Currently they are only doing JATO on the Saturday show so if you want to see a JATO take off Saturday is the only day.
My best frined is the Crew Cheif this year for the #1 jet. He has been a Blue Angel for 4 years now and ages out this year. He has been the #6 opposing solo cheif 1 year and #5 lead solo for 2 years. Anything you all want to know about The Blues just ask me and I probably know or can find out for ya. Glad you all enjoyed the show. The pilots that fly the planes and true fighter pilots that have thousands of hours and many combat sorties and arrested carries landings. The crew behind the Blues pilots are just amazing as well!

Good stuff Mike  This was my first time that I'd seen this stuff and was truly impressed.

We were discussing the physical condition these guys have to be in to support the G-forces and stresses to the body both physically and mentally. We all agreed nothing less excellent physical conditioning and strength would get the job done. I would like to meet one of those pilots someday myself.

Angels & T-birds at the same show? That's impressive. We used to have some magnificent airshows in the midwest- those days are long gone. We're lucky to get one jet and a demo team.

I'd love to see the F-22. I can't imagine anything more impressive than an F-15 demo though.

I partied with the Blue Angel pilots one night when I lived in Chicago at the Baja Beach Club. It was the night before the air and water show on Lake Michigan. I told them that they were pissing me off every afternoon that week as they were flying and practicing right above my apartment on the 44th floor while I was trying to take a nap after work each day. :D

They were really nice guys.

NJgr8Ful, the pilots are in excellent shape. They are usually of smaller stature because smaller people can with stand the G-Force better than a large person. Most of the pilots I have meet in the last few years are anywhere from 5-5" to 5'10" tall. The Blue do NOT use G-Force suits and routinly pull 7 g's! Right after the show they sign autographs, do a debreif and then go work out to get the blood flowing again.
I have known a few civilians that have been fortuant enough to get a ride in the #7 media jet and they said there body was not right for weeks after a quick 30 minute ride! :D
