Stop the bickering. They're supposed to be professionals.

all race in one end of the year race and that would be in Key West. A lot of OSO members will be in Destin this year, that means a lot less of us will be in Key West. This is forcing the OSO fan base to be divided :(

I can help you here, I have been to 3 offshore races. Key West 05, Deerfield 05 and WPB a few years ago. They all had something in common; BORING TO WATCH! I enjoy watching them on tv much more due to camera angles/commentary.

I have seen the races from land and from my boat and after 10 minutes it all looks the same. My kids watched for about 10 seconds then wanted to go swimming. The Key West races were going on after the KW PR so I was walking around drinking and the races were a slightly better alternative to watching my wife shop. It would be like watching Nascar from the parking lot :D

Reopen the Miami Marine Stadium and set up a circle course like they always ran there.Than get like four 60 foot sportfishing boats to run the course while the other boats race to bring in a little wave action.Oh and have hot girls in the stands selling cold beer and cuban cigars. :evilb:

1. Have the racers accept the above fact.......... regardless of how much fun they may, or may not, be having racing.

2. Stop throwing bouquets and "wowees" every time a raceboat makes a little noise, or gets a little air........... They've been doing that for years to no avail... What they haven't been doing is side- by side- by side- by side racing.

3. Demand a proper, simple, engrossing, ECONOMICAL, competition model where all of the racers actually compete against each other in significant numbers.........in the same class, and the same sanctioning body.

4. Ignore the people whining about having "special" classes and boats and (behind closed doors) b*tch slap anybody that agitates, finger points, litigates, self aggrandizes, cheats or back stabs.

Than sit back..... pick your race sites strategically..... create unified, series sponsor and TV packages.......and enjoy.

That was out of character for you to jump in so soon on this thread.
I thought you usually let these questions linger out there for awhile before stepping in and stating the obvious.

It's a slow day.........

Besides....this way the thread won't get highjacked by some testosterone fueled dimwit who wants to "bring back the old days" and race half naked in an open cockpit 28 footer from Miami to Venezuela in a hurricane. :p :p :p

Just 80% of the race boats and four days of racing.

Plus Destin is a beutiful spring break type of area. It won't suck. :D

So where are you racing this November?? Bar stool or canopy? :evilb:

It seems to me offshore racing just needs some major promotion. Sure spectators will come to see the boats, the racing, etc. etc.....BUT you still need more! Take a look at NASCAR growth over the last ten years. From nothing to the fastest growing sport....period. They spend a **** load of money so the fans actually have a memoriable experiance. More than not, the memories are very rarely the race itself. Its unfortunet for offshore racing it's not in a contained area. Makes selling tickets a bit difficult. Perhaps A new (BIG)sponsor every year would help expenditures.

Funny, I thought I didnt post this thread, but just the same always like to get opinions. As for sponsors. Budweiser Select will be the primary Sponsor of the Destin OSS/OPA/POPRA World Championship.

I had never been to Orange Beach til 2003, and all i can say is Orange Beach is a great race town,2 weeks ago every hotel was sold out, people came from all over to see the race, including many from Biloxi, MS. who are still re-building from Katrina. And look forward to when the boats come back to thier town to race.

Again thanks to all that take tthe time to write a opinion whether it is popular or not. :D

The best racing WILL be in Destin, but so will the 40's at night and if you're lucky, the 60's during the day. Good luck seeing Tata's uncovered in Destin.

The BEST SHOW will still be in KW. As I've said before 175 POKER RUN teams can't be wrong.......
