Best Poker Runs?
 

I know this has probably been asked before, but what are the best poker runs for a family to attend, not enter, only to watch and enjoy seeing some of the best poker run boats in the country?

I have done Key West, New York, and Smoke on the Water, I'm looking for something other than them.

for me, , , , it is the local l'iquid jungle poker run'...average joes with average boats,,,going average speeds,,,acting like average joes...and donating all proceeds to a local girl that needed help...I took my entire family on this past years run. What a great time :D

The Chicago Poker Run can be read in Powerboat Magazine, Extreme Boats, Poker Runs America and Great Lakes Boating. If you go to the video section there is a sneak peek of a TV show that will be aired shortly. As you can see there are some who's whos boats from all over the country and many fun boaters from the Chicago Powerboat Club which has all types of boats and sizes. No egos allowed at the run.

The Chicago Poker Run can be observed at 2 keys spots.

1. At the Resorts Casino/East Chicago Marina. Next years event will include exotic cars from a Chicago car club and some of boaters personal cars for a car show. Great place to watch the boats take off in the morning. The moring run goes to Michigan City because the Mack. race takes place in the morning downtown Chicago. All of the sailboats are clear of the poker run by noon.

2. A great place to bring the family for a day of fun would be downtown Chicago. The poker run goes through Monroe Harbor which is in front of Buckingham Fountain which is a great spot to see all of the boats idle by and take off. From this area you could take the family to Adler Planatarium, Shedd Aquarium, Solder Field, Science of Industry, Navy Pier, shopping on Michigan Ave, food,...............

Next years event is scheduled for July 20 & 21; plan ahead.

I agree. Lots of great vantage points all along the route. Very picturesque. Great linup of boats. :D

I agree, one of the best I have ever done.....Chi-Town is great also because it helped me get me picture on the centerfold of Poweboat mag....LOL.....BZ

If you are not going to enter, only watch, then there is none better then 1000 Islands.

They usually have 1000 spectator boats lining the course. It is a beautiful place to boat, a great place to visit and the best of the best as far as boats go are always there.

I was thinking about Desert Storm before I started this thread, are the dates set for next year?

Chicago is in my neck of the woods, sort of, that sounds pretty good too.

I see this thread is over 2 years old but it's a good time to bring it up again....

I wouldn't miss Desert Storm Poker Run this year....I've been to a lot of poker runs across the country and I don't know of any that combine a poker run, offshore races and a shoot out all in the same weekend event! It's going to be off the hook and one for the records.

The poker run itself grows in size every year. Over 230 boats last year.

My Favorites: (1) Atlantic City Poker Run. Great pre-party, great run, Atlantic City Casinos, Trumps Marina, Dinner the best out of all the Poker Runs and the after hour parties.

(2) 1000 Islands Poker Run: Great run, beautiful views, Kingston is a beautiful City and hell I get to see my freind Boxy.

(3) Rock The Bay: Did the run last year for the first time, definetly a run I will do over again 3 days of pure fun, good run red eyes is a fun lunch stop with the pool and the bikini contest.

4) Islamorada Miami Poker Run: 80+ temps in Feb can't beat that, best looking water anywere, The Tiki Bar, and a long list of freinds that make the run one of the best. It takes me about 2 weeks to recover from all the booze I consumed at the Tiki Bar alone.

Why only spectator? I'm sure somebody has room on their boat for you

1000 Islands has it all! Nothing can compare..50,000 spectators, serious hardware, best scenery in North America & crystal clear waters; you have to experience it to believe it.

Also:
Jammin On The James is a great run, affordable for the average Joes(like us)...awesome dock party.
