Re: Good news for S. Fla boating world....
Cash,
That is some good news, congrats! BUT this B!TCH and her EMPLOYER are a major problem!!
Quote
"Patti Thompson, director of science and conservation for Save the Manatee Club, criticized the revised plan for allowing so many more boating accommodations in southern Broward.
"We're very concerned about the increase in that part of the county," she said. "It is a manatee protection plan, after all, and if it's not going to do that, what's the point?"
She said the boating industry's argument that Port Everglades deaths shouldn't be held against them made no sense since manatees injured or killed by boats drift into the port. Some dead manatees found in the port have small propeller wounds or other injuries that indicate they had been killed by boats, not ships, she said.
"They go to an area where they hope to be safe and try to recover, and they don't."

When we fought the FFWCC and USFWS back in 2001, they stated the Prop scar studies that CFFW (www.cffw.org) submitted showing that 90% of the Manatees, here in Brevard Co, were being hit/killed by BIG commerical vessels, (Tugs, barges, Shrimp boats, etc) was not reliable enough to tell what kind of boat hits these manatees! Now she is changing her tune to suit the $MC needs!
All the $MC is worried about is their cushy jobs!
