I'm talking racing/recreational, high performance hulls, not battleships or some other SHIP!?
um, what is this?

I think the idea of how much horsepower a hull can handle is only a byproduct of how the boat will respond at a given speed. Since all boats don't run the same speed with the same horsepower.
As far as boats with 5000+ hp, you might want to check out Mr. Scott's new MTI, I believe he and MTI will fall into that catagory.
Also No Tech has several boats out that have over 5000hp.
I think there also some 4 engine Skater that are about that hp also, ie Big Thunder.

Very true, you can strap blower motor to a 2x4 and it will fly! BUT, if the hull is designed from the outset, with a target top end speed and horsepower in mind, then it's a safe bet that the hull will handle it, in all types of water conditions. I looked real close @ DS's turbine MTI @ LOTO, and it's an awesome looking rig, and I hope they attain the speeds they are looking for.

I hope so as well, MTI has an unbelieveale amount of R&D time in that hull. There are many, many things you can't see that they have done to try and make sure it is stable at the target speeds.
I know David has to be excited as hard as he has worked on it and as long as he has had to wait for it. I just hope everything works out as planned. We should know soon.

I think that name brand doesn't carry as much weight when you are talking about this type of boats, at these speeds. In other words, the Callan boat is a proven hull, with great speeds, that held together even after rolling at high speed.

AMF's new Mystic C-50 is slated for 7400hp.

4 x T53- 703's 1850 HP per (weight 550lb each)
