Re: Boat School/Throttle/Driver/Operations
Guys, I need help with this !
For openers, the owners of 1300 + boats listed in classified, might want to encourage proficiency......increased proficiency may not impress the lender or the insurer or the politician, but it might.....If perceived proficiency makes positive influence on any of those entities, the rates and water may be a little better......Sometimes proficiency is contagious and then, it can even be addictive. It is said, some boat manufacturers and boat dealers are paying school tuition in return for buying their boat.....That doesn't make a reflection on the buyer,it simply supports proficiency in the boat new to them. It is also said, buyers of some boats will not be insured until the operator (s) have graduated from an approved boating school, with passing grades. So again, there must be at least a few of the 1300 + boats (not the seller, but the boat) that wants a more acknowledged operator (s) in the cockpit......competitively,maybe one has to include the tuition like the manufacturers and dealers are doing.....Unfortunately,that might smoke out a few bad engines and drives. Therefore,we presently have only one choice for a school,Tres Martin....I'm sure his program is excellent....But,one man can only do so much....So,supply and demand says the price is this, take it or leave it..... Who would make a qualified, articulate boat school instructor, besides Tres Martin ? Come on,grab the lunch bucket and apple, let's go! |
Re: Boat School/Throttle/Driver/Operations
AhHa,we got two votes and I don't think they even have a boat listed.
Thanks guys! |

Re: Boat School/Throttle/Driver/Operations
If Tomlinson And Teague Have Probably Tested As Many Different Models, Sizes, Hp's, Etc. As Anyone Else Out There, I Think That They Are Definitely Qualified. Willing To Do It, That Is Another Question With Their Obvious Time Constraints But Awesome In Theory. I Would Go With Both Of These Two. Hammer

Thanks for the votes to date !
Does anyone remember who taught those already named and what the the Resume's are ? |
Re: Boat School/Throttle/Driver/Operations
Brian and Wilma Ross run a program out of Canada. They have been running Poker Runs for over a decade and been quite successful in Factory-Class racing as well. They are very successful, intelligent and articulate people - exactly the kind that this sport needs.
I'd like to learn from Bobby Moore - he INVENTED the throttleman's position.... Nothing wrong with the other names, although Joey Imprescia's name came up in the Great South Bay Poker Run controversy several years back... |
Re: Boat School/Throttle/Driver/Operations

I would like to take some lessons from Johnny T or Reggie Fountain. Benny Robertson would be awesome too. Lot's of good people out there that I'd love to have for an hour in my boat to pick their brains and learn something. The problem is this passing of knowledge in this industry just does not happen. |
Re: Boat School/Throttle/Driver/Operations
Mike I'm saving you some "speed secrets"! Take the throttle levers and don't lift-haha.

Re: Boat School/Throttle/Driver/Operations
Typically,an advanced aircraft pilot has logged several hours in a flight simulator. A flight simulator is most effective when used to simulate limited visibility conditions, such as night flight or in clouds.Especially, during departure, holding patterns and approach to landing. Some simulator time also includes visual contact with simulated terrain. The objective includes placing the simulator in various conditions and attitudes that may occur in an aircraft. The pilots confidence level is expected to improve because:their rate of interpretation increases, peripheral vision improves and the need for sequence of procedure becomes increasingly obvious.Tuning benefits go on and on.
I believe a high performance boat simulator is doable. However, based on the number of viewers there have been to this thread one wonders if there is a need for education at any level. Thanks again, respondents to date. I'd like to keep this thread alive a little longer and would value any input you may have. |

Ben was very forthcoming with driving advice. He showed me how to get the most out of the boat, how to better steer the boat through side rollers, and he even gave me some pointers on how to better back my boat up into the slip when I asked him for pointers. He was as down to earth and helpful as any boater I have ever met. It was a great experience. |
Re: Boat School/Throttle/Driver/Operations
Marginmn, personal testimonies like yours are invaluable.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I would assume you might have new or expounded questions if you were to spend more time with Mr.Robertson. Do you recall any other points of interest ? |

Would a boat simulator add value to a boating school ?

Re: Boat School/Throttle/Driver/Operations
Is that in the Outerlimits owners manual ?
Unfortunately, for belligerent piers, such as myself, alternative options such as a simulator are considerations. :D |
Re: Boat School/Throttle/Driver/Operations
Its probably the only time he'll see any spray over the bow for the rest of the year. :chick: :chick: :chick:
