Poll: Would he or wouldn't he??
 

Another thread got me thinking about this. If Don Aronow was still alive and still building boats, would he be a member here??? Obviously some here would know better than others, so feel free to post your thought as to why or why not.

My guess is he'd follow the forums, but be a lurker......

I base that not on knowing the man but the trend of most other boat builders to avoid some of the drama we have.;)

No ownwers of major boat company's post here...it is too bad because of all the drama on here sometimes I highly doubt anyone on here would cause trouble if Reggie or Skip and so forth posted on here from time to time.

he probly wouldn't post but I'd bet that he'd read, useing every bit of info that he could ,just as Reggie or someone close to him must . I do know of one builder that doe's quite often, just did today :D :cool:

Fred just think of the knowledgeable people that look and don't post because of some yahoos that would cause confrontation with them.And picks of stuff there working on and some of the old picks they could post :D

Ive seen some people that have just a couple post or none and have been members since 2001 :(

I know a couple of old-school guys who are just like Don was. I see how they operate. They have forums like this in their businesses. They read most of it and absorb it like a sponge. Post nothing. Some of it gets acted on right away, others are tucked away future use. Nothing is missed, nothing is forgotten. They wouldn't be beneath "knocking on someone's door" but only if it was the option that made the most financial sense. They sure as hell wouldn't do it just to make themselves feel better.

That's what I think Don would do. The big question is- What would Ben do?

Don would definately be a member but non-posting as already stated....then again knowing his business sense he would own this website :evilb:

That aside I firmly believe that Reggie, Skip, Mike, and all the big builders frequent this site.....lurkers at large :drink:

He'd just use it as a place to chat with his old bud's, like brownie and top banana, and some of his old customers, like MM and LS.

And maybe he'd tantalize us w/ his facinating stories.

Mr Aronow was a good man. I met him when I was eight years old. My father purchased the first 20' he made so we came down from NJ to the factory to pick-up the boat (the whole family went to the factory - me, Mom, Dad, and my brother, and even though my father purchased the smallest boat he offered he treated us great. He let me (encouraged me) rummage through his desk for Cigarette stickers and other swag (shirts, license plate holders...), which as an eight year old I thought was the coolest. Byng Goode took me and my father for a ride in 28' with 350's and VolvoSpeedmaster outdrives - we got in a race, and he won, which again I thought was cool -that was the clincher for me, Cigarette and Aronow were my favorite.

Would he be a member here? - I would hope so, the stories he could tell about racing and boat-building. Those stories would be worth more than the membership fee OSO charges. Ever since age eight I have been a Cigarette fan - thanks to Don Aronow, I don't think he would post though.
