Used boat values and engine hp
When looking up used boat values what hp do you enter for a HP500? There is a BIG difference in value between 470 and 500hp!

Re: Used boat values and engine hp
I thought a 500HP was around 470-480 HP?
|
Re: Used boat values and engine hp
I believe 475 is the official number insurance companies, etc use

What about a 502 Mag? They are rated for 415HP at the prop correct? Why can we quote this engine for values or insurance at prop HP and the 500HP has to be quoted at the crank? I've just always thought of it as a 480HP or so engine. |

For values it's confusing since all the black motors are prop hp and the blue motors are crank hp. And there is a BIG difference between 426-470hp and 471-500hp! |
Re: Used boat values and engine hp
Use the 471-500hp number.
Book value is only an estimate anyway and is for banks to use. They should also include hours as a factor to determine the value of a boat. The same boat with 500 hours on a set of 500's is worth a lot less than one with 200hrs. |

With a 502 Mag MPI(415 pshp) do you use 400-425hp or 426-470hp since technically the motor has 445 crank hp? |

Re: Used boat values and engine hp
I emailed NADA so hopefully they can clarify. Based on their website I think you always enter the ENGINE hp. Meaning a 502 Mag would be 445. But I want to be sure.

Re: Used boat values and engine hp
IF YOU ARE SELLING USE THE HIGHER HP.
IF BUYING USE THE LOWER HP # :evilb: |
Re: Used boat values and engine hp
don't depend on N.A.D.A. most banks or dealers don't use it. They use A.B.O.S.

FYI, my bank uses NADA and most of our local banks do as well. |

Re: Used boat values and engine hp
Actually, the majority of my lenders look to the NADA for loan values; and they work off of the "used trade-in $#". If there's no data in NADA, they will default either BUC or ABOS. ABOS doesn't quantify any option costs, but they do better with motor hp ratings, using actual $ values for the various engine packages that were available in that hull. The HP500's and 500EFI's value @ 470 hp, 525SC's value @ 490, and I believe 525EFI's value @ 500.

Re: Used boat values and engine hp
Thanks for the replies but now I am more confused than ever! :D
The reason for this question is I am trying to determine how much more a used boat would be would be worth with an HP500EFI compared to a 502 Mag EFI. |
Re: Used boat values and engine hp
It would be the $ difference between the boat with 470hp and the boat with 415 hp. As I said, ABOS gives you the actual $ of the boat with that particular motor/power; NADA has a $ chart for the upgrade from the boat with base hp, to the upgrade horsepower that YOU specify. You can access NADA online(BUC, too). If you want ABOS $'s, I'll be happy to run them for you. PM me.

NADA just emailed me back and said to use CRANK HP. But, the more I look at their site the more that doesn't make sense. "Standard motors" are popping up at 385hp a lot which we all know is a 454 Mag MPI. |
