Warlock cats
Who knows about 25' Warlock STX cats? Apparently this boat was a precusor of the Ultimate Warlock boats. From my understanding he sold the molds during the company transition. I have been told that these were an original design and I suspect that this lead to them being widely copied...Talon, American Offshore, Firehawk, Group One marine...etc, etc. And why not? With the company gone, it would be a safe copy. I know that that most of these boats are making changes to the bottom design. Some run pretty quick, some are, well, pretty slow. My question is how good (or bad) was the original(?) Warlock bottom? Don't hold back, tell me what you think!

Now that I think of it, wasn't DanB running one? Dan, are you out there?
|
Nothin like a Skater thats all I can tell ya!!! :D ;)
|
Yea, but 24' stern drive skaters are built of unobtanium. :D

Jim Arvis has a Warlock Cat 25 ot 26, it's a 2 seater and runs 105 to 110, with carb motor, no blower, this boat was built for MR. Zipp who ran A Class in the early 90's, I'll try to find out more.

Cord,
I sent you an e-mail but to answer some of these questions, Tom Stolarez(Hope I spelled that right) who is now WPM(Warlock Performance Marine) originally designed the 25 SXT in the mid-late 1980s, as Warlock Powerboats, he later sold the company and it went through a few owner/management groups before being purchased by Ultimate in December 1995, they bought the original molds and became Ultimate Warlock, then in late 99 or early 2000 they changed their name to Warlock Powerboats. There have been relatively minor changes to the hull bottoms, I know they added some rocker to some of the later hulls that were built for the Blackhawk drive and the transom notches may be a little different sized on some of the earlier hulls. The earlier hulls benefit from a higher x dimension, propeller technology has improved greatly in the last 10 years so adding a shortened drive helps them to go faster and handle better. I personally love the hull, it's not as fast as a Skater but is a very good boat for it's size, it is more comparable to a 25 Eliminator than it is to a Skater. By the way there are three different decks that were built for the 25, the standard deck, the race deck which had a narrower cockpit and a molded in section in front of the rear hatches and also a center console kind of utility deck. I'll sure that there are others that know much more than I do about these hulls but I will try to answer any other questions that you have. Caleb |
Also,
DanB has a V-hull Warlock, the serpentined steps were added to the V-hulls in the Ultimate Warlock years. |
A 25 with a 502 will run almost 80. handles 2-3 chop awesome. very good turning boat. fforegiving for a new cat driver. carter at warlock will help with any questions. i went from 502 to hp carb and got 12 mph. powerboat got 93 with old 525sc. very strongi barrel rolled one @ 80 and didnt do any damage. dried out motor and ran next day. boat wouldnt roll back over, so i had to pull drain plugs and sink. sponsons are sealed for flotation. good luck

Thanks guys for the great info!
I remember on the Lake Michigan fun run that somebody had a Warlock cat. I thought that it was DanB, but it looks like he has a v-bottom, can anybody straighten me out? Waterfoul? Does anybody have a web address/phone number for Warlock? I found a link by searching, but the site isn't up. |
Cord I think your mistaken about the cat on the fun run....no cats just Dan and his V-hull....
|
Cord,
DanB's boat is a 27' Ultimate Warlock Vee bottom. Nice Ride! :) |
Warlocks site must be down. If I remeber correctly I tried to go there a month ago and it didn't work then either. Hawkeye Marine in IA has a beutiful Warlock 25 cat for sale. They sell Eliminators and Baja's so I don't know if they would know anything about it.

Hey guys,
I support Warlock's website...the correct address is www.warlock-powerboats.com Or you can click here! Carter Reed and company have recently completed the purchase of a new facility in Rancho Cucomonga. They are still producing boats and alive and well. The Granville mess is finally over and Carter is looking foward to moving on with the business of building and selling boats. |
Thanks for the link!
Say, I was just reading on the Hot Boat site about a couple of guys that are experiencing a porpois problem in the 80-90 range. Would this be something to do with the hull, or a set up problem? |
Caincando1-thanks for the heads up. I'll check out their website.

Here it is just in case you can't find it. Brian |
You're right that is a good looking boat, but it's also close to twice what I'm looking to spend.
|
Cord,
I would think that that is a setup problem, an older one around here had that problem until he put on a shortened IMCO drive. Caleb |
Cord
I just got your email...but it seems like you already got the answer. Mine is a V bottom...but as far as Warlocks..its a proven design, has been around for a while and lots of them around, especially out west. Weither its an Ultimate or a Warlock, both Tom and Carter have always built a good boat. Built to run hard and stay together. For setup questions I'd call Tom at WPM or Carter at Ultimate Warlock. If you get one I think youll be happy. Good luck Dan |
Try asking Bruce. He'll be on the road until Wednesday though.

Cord, I believe your "copying" is a little off. I believe Talon was the original designer of 25' model, not Warlock. A lot of companies were "inspired" by the Talon design. I got this info from the owner of Howard, whose cat is also in the same vein. A friend of mine until recently had a 93 model 25' Warlock with a 502 Mag and a Blackhawk. Stock motor he could hit 79 on gps at Havasu in the winter, never made 80. It was a good looking and running boat. Craig |
Yea, it sure would be interesting to see the family tree for these cats. I'm sure the tree branches several times. ;)
