Re: Video Camera

Mike,

A friend of mine put a camera on his head set (Calls it helmet cam)

the pics are great because you get the drivers view and not just a stationary shot
it is not as bumpy as holding a cam i am surprised how smooth it was

we used it for SOTW in his boat an worked out great

after seeing the result i would only put stationary cameras in my engine compartment to keep an eye in there

Depends on what you are trying to accomplish

Re: Video Camera

I am in the process of setting up a camera system for the boat and motorcycle
I have decided on going with a rig from Helmet Cam

http://www.helmetcamera.com/

They seem very knowledgable they offer the Sony fx chip in the lipstick camera whiich is why they only go to 520 line of resolution versus some people offering 580 line of resolution it is still a Sony chip but not the fx chip
The fx chip has better low light capabilities which was important to me for dusk running and also the ability to look around the bottom and rear of motors to check for any leaks.

A very interesting feature they have is they are waterproof this is due to the waterproof plug they have on the pigtail that leave the camera the other manufatures I have researched are water resistant which is good for in the rain but prob not for a good dousing from a wave

I also like the one touch waterproof remote they offer for the video camera.

I am also going to use the manfrotto tripod hear for the flexibilty to turn the lens in any position with one hand and have it lock in that position after you release it

Just a few thoughts

I've been using Viosport. They have a selection of different types of cameras, some waterproof, some water resistant. They also have different choices of lenses, wide angle, telephoto, etc.

They also had lots of different accessories to help you attach it to whatever you want. I would recommend the remote lanc device so that you can put your recording device somewhere safe and operate it remotely.

I've been using it on my snowmobile and on my boat at smoke on the water. Like Boatme said, I attached it to my headset and it turned out great.
