Re: Skater 30 prototype
I think he's on the couch watching his beloved Raiders get their lunch handed to them by the Niners.
on a seriouse note; the boat was de-rigged, motors off to Sterling hull back to Skater for repair. He was not hurt in the incident other than his ego, I would imagine. |
Re: Skater 30 prototype
The owner is Dale Razor from Discovery Bay, Ca.....

If I remember right the original plan was to put outboards on the boat as it was anticipated that Merc was going to unveil some new high hp O/B's and when they did not the project was switched to I/O's (if they would fit). Skater reconfigured the boat for I/O's and Arnesons creating a bad ass ride. Awesome paint scheme/colors on that rig. There was a feature on it in Extreme Boats mag a couple of years ago. I believe it was set up with a foot throttle so owner could drive and throttle without taking his hands off the wheel. There was a great video of it somewhere running REAL fast on some glass smooth water, I'll see if I can find.

The 30 Skater prototype, was involved in an accident, some time ago. It seems the hit something under the water or the bottom, broke off the skeg part of the ASD, could not steer, impacted another boat, rolled over, and got run over.
One of my trips to Skater I saw the boat being repaired. It is amazing how strong Peter builds them, considering what happened the hull, it survived quite well. I built an open cockpit/pleasure version with T/300XS, and Jim is building a flat deck, wrap wound wind screen version, with LS7 power. Here is a picture of my deck, turned upside down and if you look closely in the background, you can see the damaged prototype, in its side, being restored, good as new. Tons of pictures of mine, from design, construction, lay-up, rigging, delivery, and running, at my website shown below. |
