Round Britain Race 2008
 

Normally its us guys coming over from the UK, to see you over there in the U.S.

It makes sense as you have the weather, the facilities , the cheaper gas, and,... you do know how to have a good time.

Although a small island, every once and a while we have a little thing to do and its worth a look.

Its rough ,its tough its 1600 miles long and it doesn't get run very often.

I see that they are using Tim Powell's name and Steve Curtis too. Are they a part of the official organizers or are they just lendng support? We have a lot of respect for those guys over here.

Could you give us more specifics....I remember the last time it ran, it was something like 10 or 12 days of running with a coule of days layover too.

From the quick summary I see no cats allowed in P1....what are the breakdowns for length of boats in each class?

We have some interest from some of the HORBA members and would like to get organized. Also trying to figure out what would make sense to bring over to run.

I shipped a Pantera 24 fom Charleston on a trailer by RoRo K line Baltic Highway to Southampton), for about $1900 one way using World Wide Shipping out of Fort Lauderdale Fl. (all organised from the UK)

Yes this sounds fun...NOT!
The guy who bought my 28 Pantera talked about that race the other day. I wish him good luck with my prev 28 Pantera Race.... I'll sit ina British pub watch the race on TV with a pint in my hand. Prob the will have some Land Rover Hearse ready around that circuit....

Theere is more information and a lot of discussion here - http://www.boatmad.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6959 - I believe Tim Powell and Steve Curtis are both involved and are happy to be part of such a huge event. The organisors are currently looking for more sponsors for the event and I'm sure they would accept entries and event sponsorship from your side of the pond!

Here is the official site - http://www.roundbritain.info/ - they have a lot of people interested over here already, and it's only the third time it has been run, once again probably over 10 days missing out Scotland and going through the Caledonian canal. Probably the biggest historic powerboat race alongside the Cowes Torquay Cowes race - come and have a go!

Hi,

For delivery across the pond I would recommend a company called Sevenstar from Holland. They do runs from Fort Lauderdale to Southampton UK on a regular basis.
