Re: New Engines: 557 or 572

These motors will definately have whipples on them. I am just not sure that I would want to turn more than 6200-6500 rpm's. So I'm wondering if I should go ahead and build the 4 1/2 stroke and take the extra torque. I ASSUME, I know I shouldn't, that if I go with the 4 3/8 stroke I will give up a little torque ( at the same rpm) but be able to safely turn more rpm's if needed. Assuming this is true, any idea how much the difference would be in torque. and would it even br noticeable in the boat.
Thanks
Michael

I have a 6.70 rod and although there may be some advantages/disadvantages mechanically...I didn't like waiting the 8 wks for custom dished pistons. I ordered 4 spares just in case..I hope I never need them though...

We could have cheated and got a flat top with a thicker head gasket or had a dish milled into the piston but I wasn't a big fan of either choice and told my "old" builder not to do it....

I like the 6.635 rod. It allows the ring land stack and crown thickness of the piston to be engineered better.

And according to Smokey, all the rod does is connect the piston to the crank. :D

So do you like this (588)better that a 557 or 572 with 4.375 stroke?

Also are you guys running the same 6.635 rod with both stroke combo's.
