Best Anchor?
I am looking for a new Anchor to use in the sandy soil around SWFL (Fort Myers Beach). Who makes the best one? What size would I need for a 382 Fastech?
What is everyones opinion on this type? http://www.slideanchor.com/box.asp Thanks for your help! Don |

Re: Best Anchor?
Awesome anchor...I use it on my 382. I store it in a bag that came with me Dewalt Drill/Flashlight/Saw bag. It fits perfectly with the rope when I store it.

What size did you go with? The Large? |
Re: Best Anchor?
Yes

Re: Best Anchor?
I use this one. nice and lightweight http://www.fortressanchors.com/

Re: Best Anchor?
I like the fortress with 5-10 feet of chain rode works well in any soft bottom

Re: Best Anchor?
Owned an Alum Fortress w/ my 28' Pantera & it was too light.
Have a Box Anchor now (size small) & it holds my 32 Spectre no problem as well as another boat or two when rafting. I keep it & the line in a duffle bag which makes it easy to walk up to the bow w/o worying about dropping it or scratching anything. The box anchor requires far less scope than the others too. |

Re: Best Anchor?
Fortress FX-16 for your 382. Same anchor I use, it's awesome - it holds like nothing else.

Re: Best Anchor?
Fortress FX11 holds my Top Gun in sand w/ strong current - NO problems. I've seen heavier box anchors not hold a smaller/lighter boat at same location.

Re: Best Anchor?
The box is awsome in sand. I have a fortress as a back up because it weighs nearly nothing but the box is my primary anchor on a sand bottom lake. No chain, easy storage, its an all round great anchor.

Re: Best Anchor?
We have a large box anchor and Fortress.
We should have ordered the small box anchor for our boat (32') as the large is too big and when just anchoring at the beach is too much, but the box anchor catches each and everytime we throw it out. We didn't use the box anchor at all this year. We should sell it and buy the small one. Our large box anchor is practically brand new. |
Re: Best Anchor?
FX-16 works well on my 382. Never a problem and very easy to handle. Box anchor also looks easy.

Re: Best Anchor?
Medium box anchor for us. I'll have to agree that it's the best boating product that I have ever paid for!!!
It holds our 38 Top Gun and 3-4 other boats with no worries.....ever!!! |
Re: Best Anchor?
Another vote for box anchor, I have the small and it holds our 288 great.. My only dislike is that I have a built in anchor locker which is no longer such a great feature of my boat.. :D ....

I had the fortress and it would not hold my 29' by itself. I spent more time resetting the anchor than I did relaxing. The box anchor is on my list for next year.
What about these? Has anyone used them on a go fast. They work great on the Carver: http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs...roductId=28446 |

Re: Best Anchor?
The box anchor was the best investment I made. It grabs in every condition and stores easily.

It is a bit heavy though, the large holds my 33' fine, but I might be tempted to get the small if I had it to do again.

Re: Best Anchor?
It is funny to read the results people have with anchors. Other than loosing a few due to rope breakage (my fault) I always manage to get a set with the Danforth's or the Fortress.

Re: Best Anchor?
They have changed their size designators over the years. I have the current "Large" size. It used to be called 'medium'.
As Craig said, its one of the best boating accessories I have ever paid for. |

Re: Best Anchor?
i use a small box anchor and would swear by it. i also have the other style anchor as a back up but have never had to use it. for your size of boat, slide anchor recommends the large anchor but the guys on here that have used them could tell you for sure.
