Swept back Skegs
 

Does anyone have info on who does the conversion?
"Swept Back Skeg"

I know Herring is one. I have a call in to them.
I will supply the lowers with nothing in them.


Any info and phone numbers would be great.

Oh yeah whats the going rate?

Hey guys if I have Ratman throttle will I go faster with the swept back skegs?


Rat I got the pig to 136 with the 35,s. one of the MSD rev limiters were labled wrong meaning 6600 was 6200 :eek: Wait till the swept back skegs.

Told ya the 557,s love the revs.

As an ex racer who raced with the wet sump and then changed to the dry sump with the same boat. Its worth 5 mph easy.

The lowers should be worth some more mph not sure how much. They outlawed the herrings pretty quick, not all the racers could get them.

Interesting! Let me tell ya the setup..
The Drive height
is 3 inches above the bottom. No spacer. Props are
17.5 x35 4 blades. I think if I,m not mistaken the swept back puts the skeg deeper in the water. This boat felt a little loose
in the stern. Possibly because the skegs are not that deep.
Or the diamiter of the props is causing to much stern lift.

I have been conversing with Peter at Skater and he would like me to try a set of 16.5 x 35 five blades.

The drives I have are a converted dry sump.

Sorry to say it was 32 degrees up here this am.
I am running out of time.

Thoughts?

I am patiently waiting on Jim Herrings call back.

My port drive had small peaces of metal attached to the
drain plug. So here is my oppertunity to do the conversion.

I have to recall how much Hp these drives have seen.
Remember t53, Turbines were in front of them.

It is supposed to help handling above something like 120.

Mercury told me the old design starts to cavitate at those speeds. Can verify if it added any speed, but it seemed to help handling. In those days we didnt race at those speeds, the boats were just starting to get as fast as they are today.

Dry sump/ drives crash boxs, but the biggest gain was props.

Love what you did with the boat. I was watching your other thread. A 46 skater as a pleasure boat is un real.

This is exactly what Peter at Skater told me.
"When ya get the right wheels you will know it"


One problem with this dial in stuff is its hard to get consistency
out in the ocean. Then again I,m not looking to push the boat
I just want a good all around safe setup. Thats why I get My AZZ busted about the sticks.

Its all in the setup.

Skaterboy had a great idea bring the boat to lake x.

My offer still stands if ya ever up here lets take her out.
