If I had that choice, I'd go with Konrads, surface drives whilst efficient and tough seem to be nothing but a PIA when it comes to using the boat, trailers, swimming around it etc.
Been very impressed with what I am hearing about the Konrads so far.

Haven't owned one, but spent a lot of time around one. The owner loved the performance, but disliked having to always watch and make sure no one got too close when we were on a beach or rafted up. Most boaters know to give enough clearance for an out-drive when they are swimming, the SD's are just enough further out there to catch the unwary.
By trailer, I meant having to have a longer and or customized trailer if you make the switch.
Not against them for a performance only application at all.

My experience with swimming around drives is that surface drives are not actually the problem. The problem is really sharp cleaver props that usually come with them. If you swim into them, these are much more aggressive than standard props that you normally expect to see on Bravos.
Having said that, #6s come with this type of prop as well and I've hurt myself on a #6 before.
Thus, it is not so much the drive in itself. It is the fact that ASDs are mostly used in very high-performance applications which require sharp props. If you compare them with a #6, they don't stick out that much more, especially compared to a #6 on a box. Also, integrated swim platforms on some of the newer boats do offer adequate protection.

You need to look a bit closer at the photos that are on this thread. THEY HAVE A PROPELLER GUARD over the propeller. More so than any other drive out there.
There is no way that your children can get hurt in any manner which they wouldn't with a SSM#6.
Now heaven help you if your child gets hurt on a SSM#6, after all that would be impossible right?
