LOTO Accident
I apologize if this has already been posted. Hitting a sandbar at LOTO has never crossed my mind. :(

Re: LOTO Accident
I didn't know LOTO had sandbars.....

Re: LOTO Accident
I wonder if he was wearing a lanyard attached to the kill switch? Boat looks like a Scarab P29. Was a nice boat. :(

Re: LOTO Accident
there are some low water points referred to as sand bars, ( i don't think there is anything sandy about them ) they are marked with bouys and that is what he hit, cool boat that was the special edition deal with small blocks and blackhawk drives,

Re: LOTO Accident
Just a guess, but any chance this happened near the Lodge of the 4 seasons. There's an island and underwater rocks there that not much can get over when the water's down.

Re: LOTO Accident
LAKE OF THE OZARKS - A Stillwell, Kan., man remains in serious condition following an accident near the 11-mile marker. According to the Missouri Water Patrol, David Hersh, 51, was taken to Lake Regional Hospital for treatment after the Wellcraft runabout he was driving hit a shallow sandbar. The impact allegedly threw Hersh around in the boat, causing him to lose consciousness. The boat continued to travel, making a U-turn and running across a walkway. The boat ran under another walkway and came to rest when it struck a seawall. There were no passengers listed onboard the boat, according to the Water Patrol accident report. The accident was reported shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday. Witnesses said they saw the bright yellow and red speedboat pass them near the 10-mile marker. About 10 minutes later, they passed by the accident and saw the bow of the boat wedged up under the walkway against the seawall. The Water Patrol and Lake Ozark Fire Protection District responded to the accident. |

Gary There is another low spot that runs straight out from shore 150-200feet at the 11mm on the opposite side of the lake from 4 seasons. It is marked with bouys, but they are easy to miss if you don't know they are there. With dropping water levels, it could be only a foot or 2 deep there. |

Re: LOTO Accident
Griff, that was the one, kind of by bikini pier,
Another accident today, i forget what mile marker, but was supposedly one of those fast pontoons two people got chucked off, only one made it to shore, currently looking for the other. Sad sad times around the lake this year, lots of deaths, some just unfortunate accidents others clearly could have been avoided, I feel for all their families and think about mine everytime I vest up. |
Re: LOTO Accident
That picture shows the docks walkway that stopped the boat, the boat went over the one next to it before hitting that one.

Re: LOTO Accident
Wow, the Doris' are the ones who bring some of the pontoons to the shootout. What a shock. I wonder what happened at 9:00 in the morning that would cause the toon to roll? Anyone know anything more?

Re: LOTO Accident
Here's the water patrol press release on the Scarab. The guy is one lucky sob and should be thankful he is alive.

Re: LOTO Accident
Not to argue the safety of the lanyard, but it does not say he was ejected or even thrown across the boat. All it says is that he was knocked out. He could have still been in his bolster and never far enough out to pull the lanyard. Does anyone know if he was or was not wearing the lanyard?

I agree. Too many assumptions here. |
Re: LOTO Accident
I'd swear that boat was owned by a guy who organized the Oshkosh poker run. It was a pretty sweet boat and he was selling it for a matching price. I thought asking was 48k. I know that he was a member on this board, but never posted much.

Re: LOTO Accident
I saw this boat coming out of the Gravous(sp). this past Sun. as I was watching the Chiefs on TV. It caught my eye from my condo b/c its bright color and just so few boats on the water.
The water level is down a couple of feet. There is a island on the east (edit) side of the lake outside the cove to Big Thunder is there not. Is it possible with the lake down he perhaps got too close....I think the it gets shallow on the north side of that island. From the middle picture SteveH has above that sure looks like the west side of the lake looking to that condo complex accross. |

Now that I look at it again, if you look on the far left, thats the house on the cliff with the water falls and the far right is the point of the island at the entrance to the Broken Arrow Marina. First year resident.....but it looks familar.

Re: LOTO Accident
The sandbar that he hit is at the 11mm on the Sunrise Beach side of the lake. Its a few coves and about half a mile toward the toll Bridge if you are coming from Ozark BBQ.

Re: LOTO Accident
What a shame. I hope the guy's OK.
I love the P-29's - but according to the original article, I'm confused if it's a runabout, or a speedboat - anyone else catch that?? |
Re: LOTO Accident
Glad to hear the guy is OK...nasty accident.
Anyone know what is going to happen to the boat? I wonder if it is going to be sold as salvage...would be a good winter project if it did. |
Does anyone know what happen to the p29 after it crashed at LOTO? Was it Junk or did someone rebuild it?
