There's a cat with three of them that uses the ramp where I launch. Looks BAD AZZ  And YES I would go back to OBs and give up my 540s , especially this time o year. You can wait till the last minute to winterize and not worry about freezing. My last outboard , I was out in December in Jersey. |

Re: Outboards vs I/O Is a change coming again?
Several good points here:
1) Cost for off the shelf - $20k for a 250ob or same money for alot more I/O power. 2) Cost for build your own - $20k would get a buy a rebuild Bravo and a 600hp crate based 502 with gas money left over. 3) Room - no denying in a shorter boat the OB's free up precious room for seating, storage, cuddy, etc. 4) Sound - IMHO, nothing sounds better than an open exhaust BBC - pure music for the soul. 5) Clean lines - the back end of an I/O is much nicer when floating or lined up at party cove. |
Re: Outboards vs I/O Is a change coming again?
I think they are.
bang for the buck you cant beat o/b's. My twin 280 ob cat is fuel efficient and very easy to work on. My next cat will have twin mercurys 300xs. They have a better warranty than the 280's haha. i/o boats are sweet but a pain to work on (32 skater illmors rebuild sucked) crane to lift motors out so on so on. I use my car engine hoist to pull my o/b powerheads. my 2 cents. |
Re: Outboards vs I/O Is a change coming again?
Will we see more Boat Building Manufacturers of today set the style of the rear transoms to accommodate the High Performing Outboards?
We are having some good feed back. I certainly do not see a problem. It is an advantage to the builder and the offer to a Boat Buyer to have a choice. |
