Oil In Bilge
1 Attachment(s)
I Have A Few Tea Spoons Of Oil In My Bilge After 120 Mile Run Sunday At 3000rpm With 4 1 Min Wot. The Oil Is Comming From The Push In Vents On The Valve Covers And Running Down The Sides. What Do I Need To Fix This Problem?
I REALLY DO NOT LIKE THE LOOKS OF THE HOSES COMMING FROM THE COVERS TO THE AIR CLEANER. |
Re: Oil In Bilge
Were you running in Clear Lake this weeked? I ran the Scarab on sunday.
Sounds like crank case pressure. I think most the time its routed back into the engine via a pcv valve or something. |
Re: Oil In Bilge
Sure Was. I Made The Run Down To Stingaree IN THE Scarab And A 22 Donzi. Perfect Day.
I Really Do Not Want To Run It Back Into The Manifold With A Pcv. Do They Make Some Sort Of Collection Tank That I Can Drain Back Into The Pan? |

Sorry we missed you guys! We ran to Topwater, then to Redfish on Sunday. Perfect weather! We ran with a 30 Superboat and a 32 Sunsation. We need to hook up...
Jim Here's a shot at Topwater on Sunday... |

Jim Here's a shot at Topwater on Sunday... MAYBE WE COULD GET A FUN RUN TOGETHER WITH ALL US HOUSTON MEMBERS :evilb: NICE BOAT |
Re: Oil In Bilge
To fix it use the hose to the air cleaner deal. I also do not like the look of the hoese. I have seen a setup with hoses to a seperate breather tank up high. But, once again hoses.

Re: Oil In Bilge
Anyone Have A Link To One Of Those Catch Tanks.
All I Can Find Are The Ones For Rice Burners. :d |

If you run it to a tank, you still need a hose. Why not just use a push in breather with a hose nipple, and route it to the side or bottom of the flame arrestor?
I run that style setup and don't even have a film of oil on the valve covers. May not look the coolest, but there's NO oil in the bilge. The pic is old, but I still use the same setup. |

This is a collector that is at the back of the engine, and the hoses run to it. The collector is hung on a custom bracket, and has a drain in the bootom that can be drained after every use. Helps collect the moisture as well. These are usually seen on drag applications but work wonderful on boats...also looks pretty trick.

THANKS FOR THE PIC. SO YOU THINK THE ONES THAT ARE USED ON STRIP CARS WORK WELL. WHAT ABOUT THE ONES THAT I SEE ON ALOT OF JET BOATS WERE CAN I GET ONE OF THOSE? |
Re: Oil In Bilge
Check out the ones offered by imco they work and look great. I run a set on mine and no oil problems and I am blown wich usually creates more psi than naturally aspirated.

This is the web site you need. check it out I think this is what you are looking for. select the OVERFLOW section on the left of the screen. |
Re: Oil In Bilge
You could have a nice aluminum collection tank made, and get an vac pump that GM used on the late 90's camaro/firechickens to pull the crankcase pressure out. and use a good breather to maximize flow though it .

Re: Oil In Bilge
OK I HAVE BEEN LOOKING AT A BUNCH OF CATCH TANKS THE LAST TWO DAYS AND AM SEEING A LOT WITH OUT BREATHERS AND A FEW WITH THEM ON TOP. IS THE BREATHER NEEDED FOR THE MARINE APPLICATION?
