T2X, Yeah,I'm really going to swap my 1000's for a pair of 500HPS for safety reasons!!!

Huh boy. Hello T2X!

Otto, fill me in on the Herring rudder. what does it look like and how is it mounted? Any website info?

Also, anybody know about the SAGE surface drive?

T2x 10-18-2001 03:21 PM

Von Wolske: Bob Herring modified the shape on #6 drive skegs in 2 ways... First he swept the profile backward..(since copied by Mercury..and long overdue) second he reshaped the blade from a "shark fin" (i.e. thin leading edge....tapering to a thicker middle section...reverse tapering to a thin trailing edge)into a cleaver or wedge shape with the thickest area at the trailing edge...like a cleaver propeller.

That shape (just like the cleaver prop) is more stable at speed....adding more steering response and tracking above 135 mph or so. The original #6 profile became positively lethal at that speed.

As far as the Sage drives are concerned we will have a set on display at "Skater Fest" this weekend. I won't comment beyond saying that they are the first steerable surface drives I've seen that didn't look like a "Rube Goldberg" doodle. I hope they perform as good as they look.

Also, what about the SAGE drive question? THANKS
By the way, a guy named Joe Tsrentsky aka, boot will be at the Skater Sniffing Session this weekend, give him a hard time.

I just know that it cost $4000. and the boat handles great at speeds over 145MPH.
