Batten

Has there ever been a LOUDER motor than the Battens in the JJ 48? Heard/felt them in Grand Haven: ouch!

Why couldn't they ever get them to live?

Qst4IT 08-04-2002 06:48 PM

Apachepete,
Those batten engines in the 48 JJ were basicly full out 1\4 mile drag engines made to last 1\4 mile between rebuilds. That was the main problem.

Right Ken....................and sometimes they didn't last the full 1/4 mile............

T2x,
Maybe you can answer this for me-earlier in this post someone said "we all know where the Chris Cat molds went, American Offshore and Awesome"-is this true?

That would mean there was more than one set of Chris Cat Molds?

Did one set go to American Offshore and the other to Awesome?

I'm trying to establish if the boats (mold wise) are exactly the same or what the differences are. I do agree they are dated and need some modernizing-especially to the deck.

Where did the Shadow Cat molds go?

Shane 08-05-2002 02:32 PM

Fast Frank,

I believe that Shadow Molds are now Awesome Cats and Chris Cat molds are American Offshore's. I am sure that T2x will verify though. Great thread huh?:D

confused cat

This should prove to be interesting. As the owner of an Awesome cat, and also having previously raced in a Chris Cat, I can say that from best memory the awesome is a Chris cat. Once again the knowledge of T2x can shed some additional light on this. I had the pleasure of meeting him at the run in Jersey city a while back and he had alot of info. Lets see if we can beckon further enlightenment!

Sorry, I guess I am lisdexlick today!:( :eek:Got 'em backwards!

I thought for sure that American Offshore is using the Chris Cat molds. Supposedly the Awesome is as well, that is why i was trying to figure out if there were 2 sets of molds.

I believe the deck is slightly different on the 2?

Shane,
Great thread! I think you are at least half right...LOL

Straycat,
What power is in your Awesome? how fast, what year etc...

I raced one last year in super cat light-went 112, and ate Bravo's just as fast.

cat a tonic

Frank, you are right. the deck is slightly different , specifically at the stern . Awesome kept the layout of the angle dash that Chris Cat had on the pleasure version. AO has a straight panel and helm. Similar to the race layout.I have had the chance to see them both side by side , a freind has a AO .
As for power, I have merc 600SC with XRS with 1.26 final ,no boxes. 34 pitch
With 900SC pulleys the boat gps,d avg 113 (15psi boost)

Currently back to stock 600 pulleys 5 psi boost 30 pitch still over the century mark.

If all goes well ,this winter shall include the install of IMCO boxes nd superchiller intercoolers. The hull is capable of speeds of over 120 mph so we'll see.

Fast Frank 08-05-2002 05:35 PM

Straycat,
What year is your boat? I saw someone buy a 600 Awesome on the eastcoast 2 years ago and got a great deal on it, problem was it didn't run (x, weight??) is that your boat? (doesn't sound like it the way yours runs)

My friend had an AO back in 97/98 and went 120 with 750 h.p./side and back then props/gear ratio's weren't available like today.

15 psi you have big ones running that kind of boost!
