Wow..whats up with Fountain
I see that there are now 231 beakers for sale, that has to be a new record for this site.
Earlier this year there were 160. Baja and Cig have stayed abount the same in the low 100's. Everyone selling out to buy a new 35 or what? :evilb: I guess I was just shocked that they had jumped so much in listings, maybe people trying to unload before winter? |
Re: Wow..whats up with Fountain
It's that marketing genius. Get 'em all horny about every model years significant improvements to keep 'em buying new boats. Drives used values down, but used boat sales isn't what keeps the doors at the factory open.
It's alot like the snowmobile market. Buy a new sled for a reasonable discount ride it a year or two...by then it's antique tech because of advancements, then try to unload it against alot of competition. |
Re: Wow..whats up with Fountain
I will be moving to a newer beak

YOu know thats interesing because the market has come back from a 5 year dip, unemployment is 4.4% which is the best in 5 years. I don't think, with the exception of energy, the economy is that bad. Of course with rates at the current level, as a borrower you can't buy what you could 5 years ago. I work making business loans and businesses are making good profits and defaults are very low. Wage pressure is on the way up. |
Re: Wow..whats up with Fountain
I say a lot of us are buying new stuff; business and growth has been great with more planned for '07!

Re: Wow..whats up with Fountain

Only a fortunate few can step up and order new !! :( :( RHC |

Thru the 90'S cig was building somewhere between 8-20 boats a year. Fountain was building 10-15 times as many. Really when you look at it Cig has a higher percentage to build ratio for sale. (Percentage to build) What the Hell does that mean? :D You get my point. :D Alot of new dealer stock for sale in the classifieds also. |
Re: Wow..whats up with Fountain
i just closed a loan on my new to me boat today thru a good friend of mine and the last 8 weeks of marine business for him is the best its been since Feb-Mar of this year

The difference, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that a higher percentage of Cig. sellers are actually MOVING UP to a new Cig, or maybe an OL. |
Re: Wow..whats up with Fountain
Must not be a popular boat line...Nobody wants to buy them.
|
Re: Wow..whats up with Fountain
Why is it when a new boat, cig, or fountain, or O/L is featured in a magazine, I see it for sale months later at places like Lake Cumberlane (sp) ? Alot of cats too with very specific paint, for sale??
Seems like these manufactures make these over the top boats with Mercs latest and greatest, for no one?? Just hope it sells?? |
Re: Wow..whats up with Fountain
A lot of those boats are already sold.... they show them for their advertising spread.

Some are moving up,some are moving out and some are changing the style of boat they own. I don't think Cig owners have an exclusive to moving up. Do Cig owners sell to buy a Fountain? Probably not. Do Fountain owners sell to buy a Cig? I'd have to say sometimes they do. But most I know move to a larger or newer Fountain. I think once people find what they like, they stay pretty loyal to that brand. Unless its a P.O.S. |
Re: Wow..whats up with Fountain
Mines in there so I can upgrade. :evilb: :evilb:
To another beak. Also, as stated before, there are almost as many new fountains listed as there are used ones. |
Re: Wow..whats up with Fountain
This is one hell of a buyer's market!
|
Re: Wow..whats up with Fountain
Mine's in there because I'm moving to London. I don't think its going to fit in the container. I don't even want to think what it would cost to ship it over there not to mention paying around $8/gallon.

Makes me think some of these boats are not commisioned , but built for an article only. |

A smart businessman will read the signs and react acordingly. In my case, it's do I store my grain or sell it, Is it time to buy more land or invest in irrigation on the land I own? I believe even someone who works for an hourly wage has the same opertunities to protect or expand their income. It's the same in the boat market. I think a lot of people are seeing these lower boat prices and are wanting to move up. They list their boat forsale because they don't like what a dealer will give them for a trade-in. If they can find a buyer to give them a few dollars more, they'll move up. |
Re: Wow..whats up with Fountain
My experience is to go with a small custom builder if you want to retain value or be able to resale it quicker. It simply supply and demand.
The market is a "priceless" market. These boats are only worth what someone is willing to pay for them. Plus with insurance, interest, and gas being up, it has knocked out some of the payment buyers. |
