However if you are going to drag me into this, Gross sales is meaningless unless gross Margin is acceptable.
Anybody can sell 10 million widgets, but it takes a business man to earn a 15% net margin on the enterprize. This isn't about speed, or gadgets, or racing, or bling. This article is simply about the state of the business....which is a public entity.
But, of course, you knew that.

If I had to guess, T2X is no Fountain fan. I don't think that's a big secret. But while you might not like his post, it's straight from the Wall Street Journal. Don't kill the messenger for the message.
Here's the thing: Fountain could eight straight losing quarters and the company could go BK, but someone, some group would buy it and restart production. Love Fountains or hate them, their brand recognition is invaluable.

t2x knows everything...just ask him!!!!!

As far as the second part of your post. I think that there is a small boat company that has been through what you are referring to. They're no Fountain by any means, but the legend continues on!

resold a 1/2 dozen times over the years. Doesnt mean
anything as to what the company is now!! Business
has its ups & downs. Sometimes you make good moves,
sometimes you don't. The important thing is that they
are in buisness, developing new technology and making
a profit. T2x makes it a point to tell everyone that
Fountains net is not as good as G.E. or Microsoft.
Show me any boat building companies who has great
net at the end of the year. Some buisniesses are great
money makers. Some aren't as good. I bet the Fountain
family does o/k. Thats what I,m concerned about in my
business. Me, my family & my employees. At the end
if there is any extra...thats bonus!!

OldSchool,
I was thinking about the company you alluded to, Cigarette, as I was writing my post and I couldn't agree with you more. The worst ownership and management over the years couldn't kill it. The best, for my money the team in place now, has improved it.
Though not on par in terms of legendary status with Cigarette (whaffos still call all our boats Cigarettes or Cigar boats, not Fountains), Fountain also has huge brand recognition. Regardless of ownership, Fountain will never die.
As for T2X knowing everything ... I'm one of his biggest fans. I might not always agree with him, but at least I know he forms his opinions based on experience and a solid grasp of history. He tends to be able to back his opinions. He's not just shooting from the lip. As I'm sure you'll agree.
That said, I think it would be a little disingenuous for him to say he was just posting bad news for Fountain as a public service, just to keep us all informed. But hey, I'm a newbie. What do I know?
