Old school race motors had a frt dist conversion to reduce timing shift from the cam twisting with a rear mount.

the rest of it means it was bored 30 thousanths and the Duntov cam refers to Zora Duntov, the father of the corvette with the FI option that came on them...I'm only 43 :D

Zora Duntov also designed the ARDUN heads for the the old flathead for engine block in the 50's. A Hemispherical design. He was an engineering genius.

Real I don't know of a way to make them daul plug heads , besides it would'nt be logical on a mild street motor. A hemi design would look all together different. Plus if you llok It has the oil fill tube dropped in at the front of the Intake Manifolld like a Pontiac, or AMC and it doesn't look like the upper hose is attatched to anything(I:E: no clamp)

Ok I looked at it closer and enlarged it to the best i could. Its a jeep engine bay from what I can tell and the engine has a front timing cover that sticks out, and the runner design would make me belive that it is an AMC engine . 304,343.360.390. or 401.

Its a chevy engin in a 55 chevy pu. The artical that Mc Gary posted, "says it has 2 plugs per cyl."

Rush - possible to post the link to the ad for the truck - just out of curiosity.

Yes its a sbc but it doesnt have dual plug heads. The front distributor drives were available from Pete Jackson , Summers Bros., and a few other co's . What probably happend is the drive on the front one went bad so they dropped another one back in the orig. rear location and left both of them for conversation. They were quite popular on Gassers in the late 60's early 70's.

"Power for the Grand Sport was to come from an aluminum version of the small block V8, equipped with special twin-plug cylinder heads."

There were twin plug heads developed, they were not very succesful. They went back to the slant angle plug heads.

The two distributor system was problematic.

before this disappears to the bowels of the bilge ...... :D

Rush - thanks for the link and below is a pic of an old front mounted sbc distributor drive.

Side note - as far as I have ever read the twin ignition, dual plug, hemi head, 377ci aluminum Duntov sbc never made it into a car- only the dyno before the program was shelved. Think 4 prototypes were made and one is collecting dust in Detroit and another is in a collection in Europe. I don't have the issue and have not seen it in years but supposedly there is a pic of Duntov surrounded by experimental engines on the cover of the Dec. 1967 HotRod Mag. and the 377 is one of them.

Specs:

ENGINE:
Type: Water-cooled V-8, aluminum block and heads, 5 main bearings, twin ignition, hemispherical combustion chambers, two valves per cylinder
Bore x stroke 4.00 x 3.75 in, 101.7 x 95.3 mm
Displacement 377 cu in, 6172 cc
Compression ratio 11.0 to one (alternative ratios: 10.0, 12.0 to one)
Carburetion Port-type fuel injection
Valve gear Push-rod operated overhead valves, mechanical lifters
Valve timing: Intake opens 55? BTDC
Intake closes 117? ABDC
Exhaust opens 106? BBDC
Exhaust closes 44? ATDC
Valve lift 0.46 inches (intake and exhaust)
Valve diameter: Intake 2.20 inches
Exhaust 1.72 inches
Power (SAE) 550 bhp @ 6400 rpm**
Torque (SAE) 500 lbs/ft @ 5200 rpm**
Specific power output 1.46 bhp/cu in, 89.3 bhp/liter
Maximum recommended engine speed 6500 rpm**
