What is THIS ??? it looks to have Arnesons
3 Attachment(s)
EMAIL sent to my boss... he thought I might know something about it.
"These pictures were taken in the Port of Ilwaco off the Washington State coast. The crew wore civilian clothes but guarded the boat closely and would not answer any questions. It was suggested it may be something Boeing is working on. The pontoons appear to be made of very thick rubber and may be fuel cells. Note that each of the steel spider-like legs are jointed in three places. Perhaps the boat can be lowered in calm seas and raised when it is rough. The boat had no name or number... A friend who lives there said it arrived out of the fog the nite before. The crew would not say who they were or where they were from, and were not allowed to discuss the craft. Notice how the rear of the cabin can be lowered into the waterbut has a very small prop." Thanks for your input. Ernie |

Re: What is THIS ??? it looks to have Arnesons
Guesses....
1. An observation/camera boat...(boats can drive right under the fusilage) 2. Heavy seas "Wave walker" for Hurricane/Tsunami duty. 3. Shallow water personnel conveyance. I especially like the deck chairs........straight out of BoatsUS. The sad truth is that this is probably another in a long line of bone headed "concepts" that have wasted a lot of good money over the years..... (Anyone remember the "wave cutting" CANDO with the stainless steel knife edge bow????) T2x |

Re: What is THIS ??? it looks to have Arnesons
One thing for sure is that the pic with the arneson looking thing sticking into the water is really a hydraulic ram and not a drive at all. So who knows what really pushes this thing thru the water.

Oregon Iron Works made the Sealions, but that is not what that thing is. They do some pretty wild stuff so it may be their's also.

Re: What is THIS ??? it looks to have Arnesons
It's a Naval recovery vessel, or a special ops intrusion vessel, or an offshore remote patrol vessel, or just an interesting boat.
It's basically 100' X 50' and was designed by a man in Emeryville, CA (Berkeley) to be a stable platform for rough water conditions. Where it should be tested to show its metal so to speak is at the mouth of the Columbia river. One of the most dangerous US water ways. The vessel was modeled in a 40' X 20' version with an outboard and the video's of it running were pretty impressive. So they received funding for the larger verison and had it built in about one year. The center boat so to speak is suppose to be an actual boat that is craned into place and used as the command center. Kind of a drive your boat to work concept. Powered by twin cummins 450 I believe and an in line ASD8 drive unit with Rolla propellers. Target speed of 40 knots. |
Re: What is THIS ??? it looks to have Arnesons
Is that pod in the middle big enough to be a troop carrier?? High enough to keep clear of heavy seas then maybe the legs will lower to drop the pod into the water below - or a winch system can lower the pod from above?? Would the sponsons be man enough to handle big seas??

Re: What is THIS ??? it looks to have Arnesons
UFO - Unidentified Floating Object that is commanded by sea creatures as yet unknown to man...
... uhhh, except the dock hands that helped tie them up, but they teleported theim aboard and were performing a very involved procedure in which they probe there bodies with pins at the very momoent the pictures were taken. Prior to being released their brains will be "washed" with a pink or blue light and they will have no recollection of the encounter. Ooooooo, scary!! :evilb: :evilb: Really, cool boat!! |

How much? And Why? Our G'ummint never ceases to amaze me. T2x Actually....... I do not believe so.... (my beliefs do not match others beliefs) that it was built with private funding. The cost were amazingly not that high. I do not know the cost but I was in on the meeting of the initial discussion and the guy had investors from a large government supplier that were to contribute to the funding if certain matching funds were provided by the builder/designer. |

The boat is ". . . an entirely different type of vessel that creates the minimum possible disruption of the waves. In other words, this vessel does not push, slap or pierce the waves but instead 'dances' with them. . . . The vessel has a pair of flexible hulls flexibly coupled to a 'cabin' between and above the hulls, thereby allowing the hulls to independently follow the surface of the water. Motor pods are hinged to the back of the hulls to maintain the propulsion system in the water. . . ." |
