Default Trailer winch strap failure !

Mine let go while towing.

Now I know why Reggie puts a step in his hulls. It stops the boat from sliding off when the trailer winch strap fails ! That and a safety chain and rear straps.

Anyone have a mail order source for a 3" strap ?

Check with Warparty36. I think he sells straps made to order.

Glad you and the boat are OK.

I would highly recommend using a safety chain with a turnbuckle to secure the bow. The strap is always exposed to the sun in the same place and really wasn't designed to tie the Bow down IMO.

Warparty36 makes custom straps and tie-downs IIRC

Ditto Wobble,
I always have a safety chain and ratchet strap from the bow eye straight down to the trailer to keep the nose from bouncing. Also a ratchet strap from both stern eyes.

The worst part about the whole strap deal is that only first few inches of it are ever bad, so you buy a new strap and have 10' of good strap left.... The good part on the other hand is that they are relatively cheap to replace.

Yes, correct on the safety chain, I'ver always had one and it worked. The boat slipped back about 6 " and between the safety chain and hull step in stopped. I'm not sure what the line pull strength is on the safety chain but afterwards I realized the clasp on the chain was way underrated but it held.

Don't say they never break! I almost broke my jaw back in '92 when we were winching up the raceboat (leadsled of a 29' Mirage) and the cable snapped sending the hand crank flying around and hitting the underside of my jaw.

Amen, I saw a guy get cut real bad by a broken cable. He was winching the boat up and the cable broke and it went across his cheek. When those cables break they're like shrapnel flying at you, rippin apart everything in its way!

I love when the guys have 10000 lb boats with a seatbelt holding in on...
