The best marina and ramp are at the State Park, Public Beach 2. It is right off of Hwy 54 in Osage beach. They have covered boat slips that are probably less than $20 USD per night (not sure on exact cost). There is a ton of parking and the ramp is 3 lanes wide. There is also a sand beach near the ramp. The water is not crystal clear it but it's not as dark as Lake Erie. Most people have no problems swimming in it. The lake is basically a dammed river that weaves around the state for about 90 miles. There are plenty of bars and resteraunts on the waterfront. For adults there is the party cove. There are several coves that have more of a family atmosphere as well where you could tie up. The best part in my opinion is the scenery. There are multi million dollar homes, old fishing cabins and some very unique architecture.
It will be well worth the trip. If you can, schedule your trip around the Lake Area Shootout the last weekend of August. You are guaranteed to see 200 mph boats that weekend.

Do it. You will love it and so will the kids. like ctadams21 said. plan it around the shootout. if you dont want to pay for a slip just pick one of the many coves in the state park area and drop anchor.

At 50 - 60 miles per day you would be able to travel most of the length of the lake in 1 -2 days but there is over 1100 miles of shoreline so I think you could fill the whole week by exploring the different arms and coves of the lake. For the kids, I would recommend hiking up to Ha Ha Tonka castle. The trail to the castle is accessible from the water. Also while you are in that area go to the Bridal Cave. It's all on Steve's Map above. In the event of rain, there are plenty of indoor playgrounds for kids (Miner Mikes) and just across the road is a very large shopping center. There are also waterparks, golf, carting tracks.....there is plenty to do there.

I would also add. If you go down to HaHa Tonka State Park on the way there is a Christian Camp called Windemere where they have all the huge water toys. My kids love it and its beautiful down there. That trip alone would be one day and during the week its very peaceful.

I don't think a family would run out of things to do here, my family never has, fishing, good restraunts (etc) and the water is fine. Its not the Florida Keys clear but swimming is not a problem.

We Have Taken Our Kids There Since They Were Born. They Look Forward To At Least One Long Trip There Every Summer. I Would Encourage Looking Into A Marina Such As Glencove Yacht Club(mm1) So The Kids Have Access To A Pool, Laundry Fac., General Store, Cooking/grilling Area, Etc. And It Is Only $30-50/night For An Average Size Boat. Our Kids Love Staying On Anchor Out As Well So I Would Go To The South End Of The Lake And Drop In One Of The Thousands Of Beautiful Coves Down There. There Are Several Beaches In The State Park Area To Take Them To During The Day And A Strip Full Of Go-carting, Putt-putt Golf, Water Parks, Cave And Cavern Adventures, Etc. Our Longest Trip There Was Almost 2 Weeks Straight And The Kids Did Not Want To Come Home. Have Fun. Pm Me If You Need Any Phone Numbers For Local Marinas Or The State Park Info. Hammer
