Which cat with a cabin?

My wife and I have been talking about getting back into boating. She wants a cabin in the next boat. She says no more race boats. Damn. Anyway, I'd like to look at a cat in the mid 30' range. She wants to get another Fountain. I don't mind the Fountain, but what cats that have cabins have 100mph potential without spending a fortune on big blower engines? I don't want blowers. I want EFI and a warranty. No more headaches dealing with "custom" engine builders that rip me off. No west coast boats unless they can handle the rough water. Just looking for ideas. Nothing serious at this point.

We looked at the same thing before buying the Black Thunder. The thing that made us not get the cat was insurance. The only two my wife liked for cabins were the Mares 38 and the Ocean Express 39. I've also heard the Eliminator has a decent cabin but we were never in one.

Awesome has a 31 , nice cabin and a 38 with one of the biggest cabins per powerboat magazine, great rough water ability, affordable and both will run 100+ on stock mercury power.

Warlock 31 SXT has a center pod and the cabin is like a V bottom.

Re: Which cat with a cabin?

36 Nor-Tech. With 525s can have extended 5 year warranty and has potential for 110mph.

I know someone on the board who would probably let go of his. If interested let me know and I'll get you in contact.

Re: Which cat with a cabin?

All ofthese cats will take quite a bit of power to push them above 100 on a day to day basis. There are a few 36 Skaters with a cabin. 36 Nortech would be my choice if cabin was necessary. 3100 AO will need 650HP per side to be above 100 every day.

Re: Which cat with a cabin?

The Nortech or the Skater look the best so far. Too bad the Mares is so slow. It has nice lines. I stopped by the Skater factory on my way to my ranch for the weekend yesterday. They are only 30 min from our new house. Would be nice to deal local. Just looking for something I may have missed. Insurance on a cat is not something I'm looking forward to. It would probably be a cash deal to avoid some of those costs.

as someone stated earlier, the 44 and 42 mti have the cabin version with awesome cockpit area and full cabins, queen births over sponsons, head, etc. several good used ones out there, pier 57 has a sweet used 2001. good luck

I want to stay in the mid 30' range. Getting into a 40' boat is not something I'm interested in.

Re: Which cat with a cabin?

anything under 800hp in a 36 nortech is no fun. all - most boring... as far as custom engine builders perhaps you should find a new one..... or you can buy a Nor tech with 850 mer efi.... for what 500k? good luck with your serch.

38 or 39 Ocean Express. Full cabin with 55 inch wide bed over the tunnel. Lots of deck space. Ton's of storage

The OE's are party barges for the whole family. You can walk from the deck into the cabin on either side of the boat.

I have had 8 people on the boat cruising at 100 mph with 4 people standing up and walking around. Can't do that in anything else. The most I have ever had is 8 sitting and 4 standing comfortably and still crusing 100 mph.

Every other cat is a get in, sit down and stay there. I have been on them all. I also have a 40 Skater.

Re: Which cat with a cabin?

there is no better deal right now then customryders 36, and after having one myself I agree it needs 850hp or more. the boat really starts getting on top at 100mph.

Lets see some pictures of that bad OE!
Big cabin considering its a cat.

I'd look into the NorTech 36. Awesome design, good speed with modest power and a good price! You can't go wrong

OE does build a 33 though, less power for that one.

A few months back the guy at OE had a nice 33 that seemed to be a good deal- it was a little bigger than I wanted and ultimately the beam killed the deal for me- ended up with a 30 daytona with 496's- less boat than you want but it's a nice sweet spot for performance, turn key and affordability/insurance (within $70 of my 28' Pantera)

If it takes 850 to make a Nortech 36 move, then that's more than I want to mess with. What kind of power does a 36 skater with a cabin need to get to 100?

I just saw this during a look around the net. Titan Cats

Any comments on these? I've never heard of them.

A few Nortechs and MTI's some have speeds listed with smaller power.

My 36 "moves" at 104 with tiny little 525's. The boat is capable of handling much more power, but it doesnt "need" it.

36 pleasure skater with a cabin with 525's should be around 110-115.

Buddy OO 11-24-2006 05:33 PM

Re: Which cat with a cabin?

Nortech got 114 out of a 36 with 525's last year with bravos and herings, most run 108-110 with bravos and 104 with 6's , 36 skater with 6's runs around 110.

Looks a lot like a spectre 32..

How fast do the OE 33s run?

Re: Which cat with a cabin?

The Titan cats are built and designed by Larry Goldman of Extreme Marine in Miami Fl. The boat is like a downsized 35 Motion with a small cabin and a little wind screen. I have seen and crawled around the boat. The boat is nothing like the 32 spectre except that the Titan is a true 32 ft running surface.

The deck sort of looks like it from those pics anyway.

Re: Which cat with a cabin?

You need a Hustler 377 Talon, it has a nice aft cabin. The cabin is basic but it gets the job done, two bench seats face each other and fold down into beds.

Also...if your wife is riding in it, she'll love the ride! The other cats are a bucking/porpoising mess untill the hull builds air. The Talon has a center pod which makes it plane easier, and it rides smooth all the way to top speed. Try one out and you'll see.

Im looking for something similiar and am looking to see if anyone has any experience with HTMs 31 footer. It has a huge cabin and cockpit for its size and seems to have a very effecient hull. I am interested in its rough water capabilities.

Re: Which cat with a cabin?

Tazz, I thought about the Hustler, but I didn't like the idea of a center pod. Won't that affect the ride quality in the rough water?

Re: Which cat with a cabin?

Dredge, Look at DCB's Mach F-34, of course thats what I own but gets you there on speed, it is a true large tunnel, the rough water ride is spectacular. The cabin in mine is just a bed area for two or three, but Dave can make this a relatively large area with benches porta potti etc. The looks are spectacular. My wife likes it, drives it, pulls me skiing behind it. It can be towed legally with out permits. Quality, rigging and customer service are second to none.

I've had mine in some fairly rough water and it just danced right over the top, no cat is going to big great in real rough water but I don't think the Talon is any worse than others. The center pod really makes the all around ride awesome, you really need to try one out for yourself to decide before you buy.

The 24 isnt any fun untill about 60 MPH. And you still dont want 2-4 fotters.

i own an SR24and your right its not a rough water boat. it handles 2-4 chop fine but doesent like rollers. Thats my only complaint on the boat and the reason I am interested in their 31. I havent seen any cats in the 24 size range that has the cabin or cockpit space thats why I bought it. Now looking in the 30 ft range I still dont see anything near the 31 in user friendly cabins and cockpits. I dont see many out there and dont know of any in my area to ride in. My other choices would be 28 tall deck Eliminator, 31 American Offshore, or the 31 Awesome that I believe is the same bottom.
