1980 Carrera SS7M
I have found a 1980 Carrera SS7M that a friend is looking to get rid of. Long story but it is a friends uncle's boat. His uncle bought it new. His uncle has been very sick for the last 6 years and they are getting tired of paying for the storage on it so my friends dad is looking to get rid of it. It's current state is very good minus the motor is somewhat disassembled (internals are still together and in the boat but bolt ons are taken off). No one knows what my friends uncle was doing when he started disassebling the boat so the motor is unknown. All of the parts seem to be there to put it back together. The outdrive has not been taken apart. As I said above the boat is in very good condition. Always stored inside. The interior is mint. The hull is mint. the trailer is in good shape. I have done several searches online about this model boat and have not come up with much info.
What is the boat worth in it's current state? Anyone have any info on this boat? I already have a Wellcraft Cuddy but I think this might be a fun boat to add to the fleet. It definatly does not seem like a family boat which is why i would probably keep the Wellcraft. Thanks in advance, Jason |

Re: 1980 Carrera SS7M
Thanks for the replies. I am still wondering if anyone has info on this boat? Also what it would be worth in it's current state? I am still thinking of buying it but if I do not I will let everyone know.
Thanks, Jason |
Re: 1980 Carrera SS7M
Jason: far as I have heard the boats were made in Miami by Humberto Picon, well built and good rough water performance. The Scorpion 24 was a "splash" of this hull. As far as what it is worth, without a motor or the motor in a state of dis-assembly it is probably in the 6-8G neighborhood. The condition looks to be excellent. You should check NADA, that will give you some idea as to the value.

Re: 1980 Carrera SS7M
Cool boat! There's one up here, been for sale for a while at 11k, has a 420/454/TRS.
As for what is worth the way it is, I'd say 4-5k You'll probably sink at least 6k just to make it a runner. Kurt |
Re: 1980 Carrera SS7M
As chriscarbone said, its a great boat in any water. lots of potential as well. CanDo

Re: 1980 Carrera SS7M
Thanks for the replies Biggus and CanDo.
As far as getting it sea worthy, I am assuming the motor will need to come apart at the very least to check on condition and reseal. The out drive and trans are also unknown. The out drive is half buried in the dirt so I am assuming it will need to come apart again to check condition and reseal. The trans ???????? Again assuming it will need to come apart to check condition and reseal. The motor would be no problem as I feel I am fairly mechanical (have a part time motor sports and small engine service and repair business) but I have never taken an out drive apart (yet, I have the alpha off my Wellcraft and need to reseal it this winter). I feel I can definitely do the out drive and trans with a manual but am unsure on special tools needed. Any idea's or hints would be greatly appreciated. Also costs associated with doing everything mentioned above with me performing all or most of the labor. |
Re: 1980 Carrera SS7M
That's an "Alpha " Drive.
What that mean is $$$ when you try and put HP (also $$$) through that drive. :evilb: You have a solid hull there, offer them $4000 Wannabe |

Re: 1980 Carrera SS7M
It is a TRS drive. You will need special tools to rebuild the drive. I would suggest taking it to a Merc. Service guy to check it out. AS for the trans. is it a Merc.2 trans or Borg? Both are easy to rebuild yourself. Part for the merc. 2 are getting harder to find so a good frshen up would be a good idea.

Re: 1980 Carrera SS7M
Well, as much as I would like to buy this boat, I really don't need it. For the amount of money I would have in this boat plus my Wellcraft I could be half way to the boat I really want. Plus insurance on 2 boats doesn't sound that great.
If anyone is interested in buying it email me at [email protected] with an offer. Also let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for all the great info everyone. Jason |

Just to update this thread as I am getting emails every once and a while reguarding this boat. The family of the owner has deceided not to sell it at this time. I am hoping when they do I will be able to buy it from them. When they change their mind I will let everyone know that has already emailed me.
Thanks again, Jason |
