what mufflers?

I am planning on putting mufflers on my Scarab w/ Innovation 600s. The exhausts are Eickert aluminun headers dry until the thru transom tips. They have a pretty serious bark. They sound great actually, but i have a 3 1/2 tr old and a 7 month old and they dont seem to enjoy the sound the way I do  I dont think the new CMIs will work and have also heard less than stellar things about their performance, mechanisms sticking and such... Does anyone run the gatlin style mufflers on their rigs? If so, any thoughts? Any other suggestions? thanks in advance.

Regards, Mark

I tried the GGB's this past summer, and I really like em. Not too quiet, yet they take the sting out of the crackle. Would put em on the next boat too. :D

A freind of mine has the Gatlins on his boat, they work ok but are still pretty loud.

I run GGB extremes through full dry CMI's. They work well, but as far as I know, they are not available anymore. :(

No water at all? Have you had the DB tested? The noise cops are getting very particular.

Rob- The guy that does some work on my boat has put a few pairs of the CMIs on other boats and they have had problems with the mechanisms sticking open and closed. I also dont think they work for me because I cant have too much water build up in the pipes due to reversion concerns. My exhaust is dry to the end where water dumps around it as it exits.

Fast fun 2- How do the zoomers work? too quiet? Not quiet enough?

As far as I know GGB is gone? Out of business?

They take a lot of the edge off it. Not the quietest but we couldnt get GGbs.

I havn't heard of any of the mufflers holding up with big motors and no water. If anyone has any info to the contrary please post it. I have 6" totaly dry cmi and over 1100 hp to quiet down.

Hey Ratickle did you get my reply on the Flame Arrestors ?

Paul

Re: what mufflers?

I used Corsa mufflers on two boats successfully, and never lost top speed. I replaced the Corsa's on my current boat because I wanted to try and get even quieter, and switched to Gibson bullets. The Gibson's may be very slightly less loud, but because I also upgraded the engine, I don't have a perfect before and after comparison for noise or top speed. This may not be the correct place to mention this, but I have the Corsa's for sale. They are thru-transom mounted for a 4" exhaust hose. They have 6 1/2" diameter bowls that Corsa says are good to 600 HP with no performance loss, and also have external salisbury flappers. I used them only one summer and they look like new. I'd be happy to get $300 for them.

Re: what mufflers?

Due to the configuration of my exhaust set up and water exit, I definitely need to use clamp-ons. This is what seems to be limiting my options. thanks anyway though.

Nobody running or have any experience with Shotgun type set ups?

I have the Livorsi E-Series on my 525's. Like them alot. Quiet at idle and then growl while running! Good luck.

scarabman 11-26-2006 04:19 PM

Re: what mufflers?

The Livorsi's are a good unit however they are not recommended for my set-up due to where the water mixes in.

The Gibson downturns would definitely work however I think they will be too quiet for my taste. Still want to hear a little growl at idle  :D

Livorsi no longer sells the E-Series. They now sell the CMI Sound Elimination Mufflers. ;)

I think Lofty on here has access to GGB. I run them on 600 CU IN 750 HP NA and they work great. could not tell any difference from before and after except a little rich in the mid range.

Re: what mufflers?

GGB is no longer producing marine products. A very similar product will be on the market early in 07'. It's a exploits the same technology as the GGB's with some real improvements to construction. We are promised the first production run in January.

Lofty,

Can you provide more info on these upcoming units? Pricing? Available in clamp-on? Will they work for my described set-up? thanks in advance.

Regards, Mark

Re: what mufflers?

Mark,

They are comming in clamp on and transom mount. Sizes will be for 4, 5 and 6 inch exhaust. I've been asked not to post pricing yet but I can tell you they are priced similarly to Gibsons.

Don't hold your breath waiting for Lofty. He's pretty good at promising things he can't deliver and blaming everyone but himself.
