Diesel Outerlimits 37
Any inside info on this? How does it run, condition, etc.

Re: Diesel Outerlimits 37
looks like a good deal..
|
Re: Diesel Outerlimits 37
That's been for sale for awhile. I am curious how it handles with all that weight in the back and what kind of speeds it sees. Interesting option for under 100K.
|
Re: Diesel Outerlimits 37
it's an awesome boat, it shows extremely clean, and it rides smooth as any boat ive ever been in, handles 6 footers out in cape cod like it was a flat pond,
|
Re: Diesel Outerlimits 37
No wonder it's been for sale for a while. I've sent two e-mails requesting more info, no reply.
Anyway, what Tom A. said: i'd be interested to hear from someone who knows the boat and who could tell me more about the handling and the speed. The ad says 72 tops but with the weight of those engines, that does sound a bit optimistic... |
Re: Diesel Outerlimits 37
thanks boomer, any impressions on speed, getting on plane, etc. ?
|
Re: Diesel Outerlimits 37
I looked at this boat a few months ago. I Talked to a few people that have driven the boat and said that it was almost impossible to get the boat on plane with out Nitrous Oxide. It only has a single speed transmission. The second diesel powered boat from outerlimist came with 2 speed transmisons. Once on plane they said it was a really nice boat.
I didn't want to have to deal with nitrous Oxide so I passed on the boat. Hope this helps Don |
Re: Diesel Outerlimits 37
Thanks Don. It looks like the engines don't want to deal with nitrous either. They had to replace one completely which for a big diesel probably means block damage.
I notice that ASDs don't have aeration ducts on photos. Wonder why they haven't tried to install some if they have trouble getting on plane??? |
Re: Diesel Outerlimits 37
It was a little tough to get on plane but it wasnt much of a problem, once on plane it was a smooth flying ride, 72 was probly about right for top speed but you could cruise at 65-70 all day long without having to worry about engine damage or fuel for that matter
|
Re: Diesel Outerlimits 37
so, 72 is regular top end, not something that you can hold for like 10 secs while on NOS?
thank you all for the info. |
Re: Diesel Outerlimits 37
This boat has been for sale for a long time.
at under 100k it'd be worth it to pull the diesels out, sell them and drop some 525EFI's in. |
Re: Diesel Outerlimits 37
Tank,
That is what I was thinking. You could probably sell the two motors for the cost of the 525s but then you still have to have the tanks flushed and re-rig for them. Interesting idea though w/ the Arnesons! |
Re: Diesel Outerlimits 37
Boat is cool. The second one built does have the 2 speed trannies, and would be worth it to upfit this boat as well. 72 is the real top end of this boat, and with that tourque, load it up and it'll still do 72.
|
Re: Diesel Outerlimits 37
The only reason i am interested in the boat is because it has those CAT diesels in it. If it had 525s, I wouldn't even look at it. Besides, in today's market 100K buys you something like an early 388 Slingshot with 500s already in it so why try to reinvent the world and end up spending more?
IMO, the gain in speed with 525s is not worth the trouble, the extra consumption, the extra maintenance cost, etc. Especially as I don't think that gains in terms of cruising speed would be significant. If this thing tops out at 72, it can cruise 60-65 all day. How fast would it be with 525s at say, 3800rpm? Animalhouse, I agree that the boat would really come alive with 2-speed trannies but they are quite a bit larger than single speeds and the conversion might be a lot of work or even impossible depending on how much space there is left between the engines and the forward engineroom bulkhead. In addition, I would have to check the exact numbers but I have the impression that those CATs make more torque than Yanmars so putting the small 110-series 2-speeds is probably not a good idea. Anyway, thanks for your thoughts, awaiting reply from the broker... |
Re: Diesel Outerlimits 37
Call Harry Turner directly if you dont get a reply from the broker

Late model 37 OL with 525's will cruise around 45-55 mph, I know this cause a friend had one. :D I like the Diesels, should have lots of service life without the NOS. |

Re: Diesel Outerlimits 37
I saw the ad for this boat listed on yacht world, its marked SOLD!
|
Re: Diesel Outerlimits 37
I was very interested in that boat also. I just had a hard time convincing myself that I wanted to deal with a boat this big and its hassles, hydro hoist, trailer storage, ect. Also the Nitrous things scares me, two engines in 400 hours. I did learn that the interior was almost new. I wish the new owners the best with her. I am kinda bummed!
|
Re: Diesel Outerlimits 37
I personally like the boat, not only cause of the diesels, but I like the SS 37 OL model as well. Not sure on the nitrous on marinzed diesels, but we do run them in one of my 6.0 litre Fords. It only comes on between 3200-4150 rpms or a max of 10-12 seconds, once engaged. No major problems, but on the dually with all the other mods at the track we are turning 13.55 vs 14.01 with out. That is a 4+ truck length difference in the 1/4. We are working on a propane truck now, my daily drive 07 F350 dually....Like Super T stated, if they redo the vent tubes or add them to help aid it up on plane, add a butterfly valve in the tubes for better mid-range acceleration, possibly turn them up a bit, play with props, possibly larger exhuast and so on, top speed will definatly get faster. I think it's a great buy, relable, fuel effecient, but top in the upper 70's for me would be better. Jeff

Re: Diesel Outerlimits 37
nitrous in a diesel?? wouldnt propane be a much better alternative???
|
Re: Diesel Outerlimits 37
looks like it's sold. which explains why they didn't reply to me, a deal had probably been agreed already.
oh well, good luck to the new owner. but i do think it's a great buy. it's economical, reliable, cheap and IMO fast enough for someone who is going to do a lot of long-distance cruising with family on board. and it looks pretty good, looks much faster than it actually is... |
Re: Diesel Outerlimits 37
I had seen HARRY run through the canal with it it seemed to get on plane like any other hp boat this was when he first own it.
|
Re: Diesel Outerlimits 37
How many other GTY Diesels were made? This red one was the first, I know there was a white one, any others? Ever see them for sale or around?
|
where is this boat now? Anymore pics or info on it?
Mike |
I tried contacting them a while ago, I got no response.
|
I believe that was originally Paul Fiorie's boat...I remember seeing it years ago in Greenport with him. It was very stern heavy but seemed to run pretty well for what it was.

I had several years ago a sonic 28 with 1 yanmar, without nitrous I needed to surf it on a wave to get it on plane... |
ttt.
http://www.powerboatlistings.com/view/3149 Wonder if this is an old ad or if it's indeed for sale again... |
It's an old ad at the bottom it says it was posted september 24th 2006

Re: Diesel Outerlimits
I know the owner of Paul Fiore's former boat. We talked this past
summer and he would be willing to sell it. If my memory is right his 37 is a 2000 w/Arnesons. PM me if you have an interest in the boat and I will pass your contact info to him. OK! George |
Is this the only 37 w Arnesons? Are there any gas powered?
|
contact Big Wave Craig's in Hyannis ma. I think he pulled the diesels out and re-powered, and repainted it in 2010.

I don't believe so, most just went 6s with big power.
I remember Paul's boat, when I had my 37, I saw that boat when it was pretty new...it sat very low in the water. He wanted hassle free boating. |

I've never seen a gas powered Arneson 37, although that certainly doesn't mean there's not one out there... the 37 was easily OL's biggest seller so they produced quite a few over the years.
