The new Nortechs are virtually silent. Probably something everyone will have to get used to in the future.

BBC or not, I still love the sound of my Dads 115hp merc 2stroke off the back of his 16' Bayliner wound out.

I have engines on the back on my boat and you can't even hear them idle. At speed you can hardly hear them...WOW is it nice for a change!

really not that bad, custom turndowns have silenced my 2700hp nortech. Its either quiet them or not boat at LOTO.

I like the sound of dry headers, but can live with a set of CMI's nicely muffled. Not silent, but perhaps not obnoxious to those who don't share my joy in the sound of screaming big blocks. ;)

I like the rumble of a big block but some of you guys are bragging that your pissing people off, thats not right.
All it takes is some guy to get mad and he can cause a lot of trouble for powerboats. They were almost banned on LG because of 1 person.
Keep that in mind.

Did that one person have a 33 powerplay?

No. It wasnt one boater who did it, it was a non performance boater who happened to be the water keeper.

Nothing wrong with blowboats.... I've been a blowboater in the past... There is a certain amount of fun knowing you aren't spending money as you "crawl" somewhere.... :D

I had a Fountain with twin 350's w/ no through hole exhaust. I never missed the sound and the neighbors loved the boat! The kids liked getting on the boat much better.

Re: If Your Engine Was Silent

i would rather beer bong my own diarehia than have a quiet boat...........The only thing that is bad about your own boat being loud is not having enough trust in your buddy to rip buy ya when your standing on shore...............

Chris Sunkin 12-03-2006 09:01 AM

Re: If Your Engine Was Silent

I wish I could afford to make them louder.

As far as noise affecting other boaters or lakeside residents- you don't need a quieter boat, you need bigger water.

Re: If Your Engine Was Silent

There is a certain feeling you get when you fire up your BBs or somebody near you does. I boat in big water so being considerate to my neighbors does not come into play except around the dock then I use my Captains Call option. If they regulate the sport so these engines are quiet, I'm outta here and into a cruiser. Unlike others, I'd miss the sound and the anticipation I experience when I fire them up. Kids...they get ear plugs.

I don't know if you have checked the sale prices of blowboats lately... but they are just as expensive as powerboats. I like to see you power across the pacific to Hawaii sometime. It's all a matter of choice for the moment. :D

Re: If Your Engine Was Silent

Wouldn't bother me at all as long as boat still went the same speed-are we trying to make noise or go fast? I drove a new 4 stroke snomobile last year,it was strange-the noise of the track clattering and parts turning was louder than the motor, kinda eerie BUT if I bought one I wouldn't go out of my way to make it louder unless their was a performance gain,Smitty

hee hee, as soon as they have the gas island halfway I'm there. I wouldn't have any problem taking a sailing cruise in the Mediterranean or Caribbean.

And there you have it. The 78 y.o. waterfront resident having tea on Sunday afterenoon can't hear what Cousin Hilda just said so with a certain amount of disdain they complain to the authorities who see a new opportunity to pull us over so they're for it, then a lawyer checks it out and realizes that most of us live above the poverty level so he gets interested, "I'm just standing up for the rights of my clients" yeah right, then the powerboat shops see the $$$ it takes for conversion work so they get interested, then the new boat manufacturers see the 30% mark up on anything they add to a boat so they get interested...etc etc

Now wouldn't that be cool if they had offshore re-fueling ships stationed every 200 miles... along with a few Denny's for food.... hahahahha..... you would only have to fill up 15 times on the way there.... but man would it be fun!... :drink:
