Does anyone know what S/W companies like TAOD use for the renderings?

CorelDraw is what i use but as with most software that all the graphics guys use you have to generate all your templates and any graphics yourself. i have a large archive of files with all my line drawings and graphics for future use. most renderings are protected and not avaliable. what are you trying to do? i have line templates for several boats if that helps

I may be buying an older boat that needs updating, instead of getting out a sheet of notebook paper I thought I might go try this first. It would also be nice to cut some templates as well.

what kind of boat is it? i may have something you can use. i have converted some to a file you can open in WORD and make hard copies. you would have to do the graphics the old fasioned way but atleast it gets ya started :D.

heres one i did of the 49 Ocean Express. its a perspective 3/4 rear view but most of the ones i have are straight on top and side templates. makes laying out graphics easier. they are generally fit to a standard size sheet of paper but for some reason i resized this one to small. let me know what you are looking at and i will see if i have anything that might work.

Both TAOD and myself use Adobe Illustrator. It's a really powerful program, and very similar to GlassDave's Corel Draw.

Fair warning......I thought that i could just buy these programs and start using them immediately. I could make brochures, and do renderings, and cards, and all sorts o' neat stuff. IT TOOK ME AYEAR BEFORE I WAS PROFICIENT IN THESE PROGRAMS!

My warning to you is to be cautious with your money. Adobe Illustrator is a $500 program, I believe, and you can't just go in and make magic happen. It takes a lot of time to learn these programs. Keylines are a big challenge for a novice, and doing a design...especially an intricate design, may be futile and frustrating. If you don't intend to utilize these programs to a point of satisfaction, it would be best to call upon someone with enough experience to help you.

Dave, do you use your CorelDraw to interface with any type of Cad plotting program to cut vinyl? If so, do you like It? i use Signlab, and it works great.It also interfaces well with AI, but i don't believe I can use AI as a cutting program. Just curious.

I can import any progam into my SignLab program but I use Adobe Illustrator, Like TAOD and Mitcher T. I like SignLab for my cut files as it is easy to learn and use when I first got into it.

Hey Mitch, hows it going? Good advice on using these programs and very true. I have been using Corel for several years and i think i learn somthing new everytime i fire it up. They are very powerful utilities but require a fair amount of input. I will probably swich to AI at some point but for now Corel fill all my needs, its the first graphics program i got and old habits die hard :D . Havent really used it with any plotters, most of the time when i need logo die cuts i just contact Mr.Beckley. My graphics are still largely free taped with the occasional spray mask thrown in. Mostly i use Corel to develop a visual for customers. :cool:
