Need help with Fuel Leak
3 Attachment(s)
I get my boat filled on the doc and if i do not use the boat right away then the fuel will come up through the vents and leak down the side of the boat. I went on vacation for a weak and this is what i came home to. I am having the paint fixed over the winter but want to make sure this does not happen again, any ideas?

Re: Need help with Fuel Leak
That stinks. Try not topping it off. Anytime it get warm with a full tank its going to use the overflow.

Re: Need help with Fuel Leak
Thanks I have mention that to my fuel guy he says he is not but who the hell knows

Re: Need help with Fuel Leak
To be safe, you can put a clear piece of vinyl under the overflow. Then you can always remove the vinyl for poker runs and such.

Re: Need help with Fuel Leak
Chances are you are getting a small amount of fuel in the vent tube. When the temps change, the fuel and air in the tank expands and pushes out the fuel in the vent tube.
I have seen a gadget that acts as a catch can. It is temporary and attaches with suction cups. |

http://www.boatersworld.com/product/366790038.htm I can't find the link to the suction cup overflow bottles, but that could work as well. |

Re: Need help with Fuel Leak
Fuel expands.
It is cold in the ground, then the boat and tank heat up. Just do not fill up until you are going to use the boat. Otherwise don't fill it completely full if you are going to store it. On Diesel they say to only fill 90% full. I don't think gasoline expands as much. |
Re: Need help with Fuel Leak
This is what I bought last year, with mixed results.

Re: Need help with Fuel Leak
Maybe you could put another vent in some where else and make that one blank .
|
Re: Need help with Fuel Leak
Make sure the vent line comes out of the top (highest point) of the tank, not the side. Air is supposed to be in that line, not fuel. If theres not already a loop in the line, (to keep water from coming in through the vent) might not hurt to replace it and put one in. It'll give it a little more room to expand before coming out.

Re: Need help with Fuel Leak
i will check that Brad thanks i do not think the spill bottle will do anything since they are flush vents but worth looking into just makes me sick seeing the fuel eat through the paint:(
