Still looking...35 Cafe Racer

Yup, I lost out on that Cafe Racer that was listed here...one of you clowns apparently bought it without a sea trial or a survey...and paid 42K...good luck with it :(

So, I continue my search...I'm looking for a late 80's Cafe Racer in the neighborhood of 50K...It has to be original gel and engines and drives can be original also. Original interior is preferred, although I doubt one of that vintage exists with original interior...

C'mon guys, help a brother out and keep yer eyes open... :D :D :D

Thanks!

thisistank 01-22-2002 07:00 PM

they sold that one on here that was in florida, the white one with the red stripe?? No survey!? That was brave.

Sean 01-22-2002 07:04 PM

The one that was sold was white with a red stripe and had CIGARETTE written down the side in big, block lettering. It was in Michigan, and apparently bought by someone in Oklahoma...definitely a brave move...I'd hate to be that guy and get it home only to find the entire transom needed replacement

thisistank 01-22-2002 07:14 PM

No sh*T!! Did you see the other one on the board that is in Florida? mid 60's as I recall. Looks nice, just what you (and I!!)are looking for.

Sean,

Stopped at TNT on Sunday. No one was there. I'll check again this weekend.

Andy

Sean 01-22-2002 07:18 PM

Tank, Yer lookin too huh??

There are some out there, I may go look at the one at TNT, it's been for sale for a while, but I think they are asking too much for it.

There's one in NJ for around 50K, but something makes me reluctant to look at it...mebee I just need an excuse to go to sunny Florida!

Have you come across anything interesting?

Sean 01-22-2002 07:20 PM

Yup, I got Andy and RG on the case! Thanks Andy, I spoke to RG last week and I am waiting to get some pics from her. If you do get over there, I would GREATLY appreciate your professional opinion!

thisistank 01-22-2002 07:26 PM

I'm just half ass looking right now. I have to deal with putting the new motor in my then selling it sometime later. Then I will seriously be looking. I was thinking around 90k to spend but I see you can get some that just need a little TLC for 50-60. Prices are dropping big time though!! You can get a late 80's to early 90's gun now for mid 90's, that just pushes the cafe's down! :D Hope they stay like that for another year, when I'm ready to buy. I'd def. check that one at TNT out though. What did RG say about it? beat up or what??

Tank,

There was one at Eddie Morenz shop in the Huntington Beach area. It was a little rough but had potential. DMan knows Eddie ... might be able to hook you up.

cigarette1 01-22-2002 07:31 PM

Hey ... don't be pushin' down no Cafe prices

... mid 90's Guns for under $100k ... that would be for a very rough one ... you'll find a near perfect Cafe for that.

Sean 01-22-2002 07:42 PM

Yeah Fred, I say pics of that trailer...they don't mention it in the ad and I don't know if it goes with the boat or not, but it definitely looks rough!! :D

How doin with your search? Have you picked out your new toy yet? I saw you were looking at Sonic...definitely a solid boat, althoug I saw a 45 up here that cracked at deck near the faring on the starboard side...just from normal operation...

KenP 01-22-2002 08:32 PM

Sean, My neighbor has a 1989 Cigarette Cafe Racer absolutely mint perfect. Myco trailer. He never uses it because he has 3 other boats and has lost interest. Once in a while he starts the boat but that is it. It sits on a lift in the summer and that is it. The boat has full Marine Machine steering 572's flawless. He is looking for a little more then what you want but I would look at this boat original and spotless.

TomFTM 01-22-2002 09:00 PM

Hey Sean, I'll sell you my 38 , you won't have to do any work. Tom ;)

Pure Energy 01-22-2002 10:12 PM

There is one at Doller Offshore's site.

thisistank 01-23-2002 12:05 AM

Gary,

I need to sell my boat first...Oh wait, I need to get the motor finished in it first, then play with it, then sell it....THEN buy a cafe...And I'm going to buy Kevins when he buys a gladiator!! :D :D ;) My plans are all laid out! ;)

And don't worry about the cafe prices going down, you're not selling yours bro. You better not be at least, that thing is the BOMB!!!

Miller 01-23-2002 12:11 AM

Sean, I thought that I saw a list for one that seemed to fit your needs. Let me dig it up if I can.

IDRPSTF 01-23-2002 12:24 AM

Sean there is one here in CA that fts your price range. Interior is not original and I cant remember what power off the top of my head. You could probably steel it but it may need some work. I would not describe it as Eye Catching. If you are interested in a prodject let me know and Ill get you a spec sheet. If you like what you see Ill make the drive and get digital pics. Let me know.
Matt

Sean 01-23-2002 08:00 AM

Thanks for all the replies. I'm heading down to Florida within the next two weeks to take a look at a couple of boats, so I'll let you guys know how I do!

Ken, thanks for the heads up...any idea how much for the one in Jersey?

Matt, I'm interested in the boat in CA, but it would have to be a pretty good deal for me persue. The transport costs alone are going to be huge! I would be interested in looking at pics and if you have a $ number in mind that would be helpful. Feel free to drop me an email.

Thanks again guys!

Sean 01-23-2002 11:19 AM

My girlfriend and I will be in Ft Lauderdale/Miami area Feb 23, 24 and 25th. I hope catch up with some of you and look at some boats, so keep 'em coming!

Sean

Jana 01-23-2002 01:10 PM

A friend of a friend has a 90, I think, that he's thinking of selling. It has twin Hawks with low hours, mostly in fresh water. If you're interested, I'll get you more info when my friend gets it. I haven't ridden in the boat, but I have seen it - it's clean and in good shape.

THE BULL 01-23-2002 02:44 PM

sean, how about a real clean outlaw 28 (could be called a 31) with twin 475s 150hrs :D just figured you needed a laugh!!!!! ;)

CIG3 01-23-2002 07:57 PM

Sean, I'll get to TnT this weekend and check it out. Give me a shout when your on your way down. I'll hook up with you and give you the tour.

Andy

KenP 01-23-2002 08:33 PM

Sean, I would look at this boat. Nice trailer, Spotless with fresh 572's Bravo's, Marine Machine full hydraulic steering. I think he is asking 75,000. Make him an offer,

Ken

NW_Jim 01-23-2002 09:37 PM

Surgin' General 01-27-2002 11:48 PM

Sean,

I looked for a year or so for a late 80's Cafe with good power and bravos or speedy drives. I would definetly save every contact you find even if they say their boat is not for sale. There are so few of these out there and things will always change by the time you are really ready to cut a deal.

I finally found an 88 with custom 540's and Speedy # 3's and bought it in July last year.
You can't beat the ride and the cabin space. Offshore Performance in Grasonville MD had an 89 Cafe with 540's last fall. Ask for Hugh Pollock. I'll keep my eyes open for you. Don't settle for anything else.

Sean 01-28-2002 08:16 AM

Surgin'

Did you buy the Raymond Weil 35 with the Hawks and the aqua blue/purple paint? It was owned by a jeweler here in NY.

That boat was at Falcon for several years and I ran it a couple of times...what a great boat! Had midrange thaw would snap yer head!

Anyway, I've got a couple of boats lined up for my trip to FL on the 22nd of Feb, so we'll see what happens. thanks for all the replies.

IDRPSTF 01-28-2002 12:02 PM

KenP- can you have your friend W/The Cafe email me. I have 2 possible buyers in that price range. Thank you

Surgin' General 01-31-2002 05:06 PM

Sean,

No, mine's got a big pink stripe down the side and custom 540's, not Hawks.
