Boat wreck video

I ran into this video on break dot com today and had a few questions.

http://my.break.com/media/view.aspx?ContentID=196706

I was wondering if there was anything the guy could have done once he got loose. It sounds like he cut power and then the boat hooked. I would appreciate any input on what the mistakes were in this case. According to the title, the driver didn't make it, I am not disrespecting whoever was driving the boat in any way, I am just trying to learn something to avoid similar mistakes.

Thanks,

Rene

Wow that was rough.

Lesson learned. Don't try to turn until you're going slow enough. Looked like he starting his turn to go into the inlet. Let off the gas, dropped the nose and hooked. That wasn't even a step bottom hull. Ouch.

wow . . thats a very sobering video. tough to say what could have been done different. looks like he was running pretty hard. there really is no text book way to run like that other than common sense, experience and running within the abilities of yourself and your equiptment. i have never seen that was that, whats the story? was that a poker run or race or what?

That is hard to watch , looked like to me he turned the wheel after the launch. Sad.

Ditto, I watched it 3 or 4 times, almost look like a bit to much trim for the water conditions. Man that looked horrible. Look like the boat landed right on top of them.

Just goes to show what a great day of boating can turn into if your not on top of your game.

kinda looked to me like the driver had it trimed to the moon carried the bow a bit to high and triped it into an off camber wave. after the bow hit the voilent hook and bow steer shook the driver out of control, you can see him come out of the bolster after the start of the boat coming around. also with the bow diving like that the drives are now out of the water and being trimed as high as they were offer no ability to steer the boat. at that point all passengers were just along for the ride. tragic

damn, that is a hard video to watch. Its amazing how quickly things can go bad.

It looks like a bolster seat comes flying out of the cockpit. Perhaps the seat broke and caused him to fall and pull the wheel just enough to cause the boat to hook.

That is a very sad video.

One of my Dad's friends was riding in a boat when it did much the same in the vid. In his accident the driver died and he survived; happened on Lake Ontario and within the same time frame as the vid. Wondering if that was his accident, so I'm going to ask him via email.

I didn't see any heads pop up. Don't like seeing that happen to anybody.
