How Do You Blueprint A Hull ???
The question is HOW, not what blueprinting does to a hull.
I know it is about making it straight, no hook, so on and so on... But how do you do this ? do you fill the holes or hooks with more fiberglass ? more gelcoat ? This make the boat heavier in some point if that is the way to do it... Do you flip the boat upside down? How do you straighten the hull when you approach the front end of the boat ??? I'm sure many of you have answers, FASTFUN2 would probably be among those... Thanks! And Merry Christmas to you all!!! |

I have no clue but would like to know to.

Re: How Do You Blueprint A Hull ???
Blueprinting is for sissies that don't have enough HP... just ask Steczy........... :D

Re: How Do You Blueprint A Hull ???
You can glass it or use a fairing compound while sitting on bunks, dont need to turn it over. Then gelcoat over it.

Re: How Do You Blueprint A Hull ???
I dont know what blue printing is considered unless you have an actual print from the manufacture that you wold use to get the bottom to there specs. Or coping the bottom of a proven hull.
As far as getting the hook out I did two of my hulls grinded them down to bare glass on the running surface 8ft from the transom forward, from the keel to the chine glassed them back up and used a long airfile to sand them strait knife edged the strakes sealed it then painted the whole bottom in awl grip. I jacked the boat up and laid it on it's side. Did one side at a time. It is very labor intensive. |

Re: How Do You Blueprint A Hull ???
For what I can tell( never had base line conditions)3 to 6 M.P.H. I am going to do the boat on my avatar in Jan it runs 78 in like conditions. The bad thing the boat is getting a bigger engine I am going for a 10 to 12 MPH gain. I will try to start a thread from start to finish.

what about if Pat from Active Thunder would chime in here? I saw some pictures here when he did the new 33. but they were only pictures of the boat upside down. not the work...
any lessons from AT? please? |
or Sydways from almost AT ? I'm sure he knows also about that!
|
or glassdave?
I'm sure someone here can tell us the how to ! |

"Blueprinting" an offshore hull is really just straightening the running surface and removing any "hook".
I built a rotisserie and rotated my hull 180 degrees to do mine. Extremely labor intensive! http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...ps227f79da.jpg http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...ps5eee1a94.jpg |
and just to add you also straighten and sharpen the edges of the keel and strakes,,sometimes includes adding more strakes to the hulls bottom..

you guys are responding to a thread from 2006.

yes i brought it back this morning!
what do you guys use ti ''fill in '' the hook? what are the right steps? |
This is good Info! Well worth bringing back from the dead! My dad did this to his 87 IMP. To us it was a great cheap way to a (heavy) performance boat without the huge initial cost of the big names. I know he used a $hit ton of acetone. I was too young to remember exactly how he did it but i'll ask. Pretty sure no material was added just did a lot of sanding to remove the hook. He ran very wet in the front plus his x-dimension was too high to begin with.

Just remember that some manufacturers specifically design hook or rocker into their running surfaces for optimum performance depending on the traits of the hull.

what do you guys use ti ''fill in '' the hook? what are the right steps? if its a huge hook use 3m under water fillers.. it does not have ro be 3m brand i believe duratec also makes some fillers..you can also mask off a area if the hook is less that 40 mil and use spray on dueatec vinylester blue priler/filler..stuff goes on like peanut butter lol... |
