Re: What hapend to the New England Races
This is what we are trying to do with HORBA. There is a great history of racing in New England.
The Gloucester race was always a major stop on the schedule. The guys that ran the race from that area...Cape Ann, were killed in the blizzard of '78.
They were going out in a boat trying to rescue another boat caught in the blizzard....they were really good racers and tough guys.
Plymouth was another great race. Your compasses would spin as you went by the nuclear power station on the way down to the canal....you just had to believe that after you got by, they would come back and you could trust them again.
We have a video of the Plymouth 160 on the HORBA website from the mid 70's....www.historicraceboats.com
I'm not buildng my banana boats in New England anymore, but I still spend part of each year in RI. Anything I can do to help with this effort, let me know.
