What hapend to the New England Races
You here all about the races that use to take place in New England in the 90's. Now the closest Races are in New York. How many racers are from New England?

Re: What hapend to the New England Races
The OPA tried last year for Fall River, Mass but ran into Homeland Security issues with the CG.
Last I heard, it was going to be a GO in 2007, but have yet to see it on the schedule. Only a TBA on one of the dates. They are trying. Cape Cod was just a few years ago as well... |

This is what we are trying to do with HORBA. There is a great history of racing in New England. The Gloucester race was always a major stop on the schedule. The guys that ran the race from that area...Cape Ann, were killed in the blizzard of '78. They were going out in a boat trying to rescue another boat caught in the blizzard....they were really good racers and tough guys. Plymouth was another great race. Your compasses would spin as you went by the nuclear power station on the way down to the canal....you just had to believe that after you got by, they would come back and you could trust them again. We have a video of the Plymouth 160 on the HORBA website from the mid 70's....www.historicraceboats.com I'm not buildng my banana boats in New England anymore, but I still spend part of each year in RI. Anything I can do to help with this effort, let me know. Charlie McCarthy |
Re: What hapend to the New England Races
Now i just have to figuer out what Horba stands for and ill be good

Great article, all should read it. They were always very competitive in everything....and the thing that really put a point to it was, Betty Cook coming along and kicking our butts on a regular basis. The sport was covered by the major media of the day...Sports Illustrated, Esquire Magazine, New York Times and a race boat was unique enough from the standard boat of the day, you really stood out when you pulled into a dock anywhere. Let's get those NE races going again, so some young whipper snapper can have some great memories in another 40 years too. www.historicraceboats.com |
