Corsa baffled tips vs straight tips

I'm knee deep in my winter project/ upgrade/ repair, & just general maintenance...I've decided to remove the silent choice & replace my Corsa baffled tips with straight tips with flappers. I'm running a 454 mag mpi, will this effect anything by eliminating the back pressure that the Corsa tips provided? Or will the computer adjust for this? Will I notice any performance gains? Or is this just a waste of time to replace the shiny stuff?...:D

It should not hurt anything. You wont notice any big difference in power or speed. Sometimes you gain no extra power or speed and other times you can gain 1-3mph at best depending on how choked up the stock set up was.. If you already had thru hull it probably wont be very different from where you were already, but on occassion ther are some small suprises.. If you do swap the tips It will however sound much meaner & cooler.. :) Jamie / Lakeside

Like Jamie said - the sound is the biggest differnce. It will sound bad azz. You may get a little more midrange punch - maybe.

If your Corsa tips have the dual baffles, they are pretty restrictive. You may see 50-100 RPM increase at WOT. I recently dyno'd a 496 and we installed a set of single baffles to test. They cost 10 HP over no baffles.

You guys seem on track too.. I would figure mainly no difference in bottom end. Mid & Top only maybe a little depending on set up & overall application.. But it shouldnt hurt it & It should sound cool... :) Jamie / Lakeside

Thanks for the input, I was actually suprised to see that the baffles were fixed, & looking at them, they do seem quite restrictive. I am looking forward to the better sound, & whatever, if any, gain will just be a bonus....

The tips are restrictive and you should gain some power with straight tips. The merc computer does not adjust itself to conditions other than the knock meter. It has a fixed fuel and timing curve.

The tips alone are not going to make it a requirement to reflash the ecm.. The stock systems are a little fat anyway.. He should still be fine in just adding the tips, unless he is also doing something else that is not being mentioned here.. Jamie

The tips are the only "mod" to the engine for right now. Perhaps after I get comfortable with the boat, & have a need for more speed....if ya know what I mean...:D ....I really appreciate all the input on this matter.

A friendly Fyi.. The corsa tips are about 50$ more for the pair, but they do have a lifetime warranty on the internal flappers.. :) Jamie

Replacing exhaust tips is not a worthy performance upgrade. If you think you will go faster or gain RPM you are waisting your time. I did this on my 454 mag when I had my smaller boat and did not notice any difference. They do sound a lot meaner though! I got mine from Jim Browning at Corsa perf. Same thing- no internal baffles with external flappers. They do make the boat louder. Less restrictive? Maybe. Performance gains were not noticeable. They are not that much $ so go for it they sound cool.

I did pretty much figure little to no gain in performance, but the Corsa's are stained & really show their age, so replacement was necessary :D ...I was just really suprised to see the fixed baffle in them, & it just looked to be quite restrictive....oh yeah, & the sound was a bit "muffled"....LOL...Fortunately, I boat in areas where there are no laws concerning the "noise"...."YET", & there really are not a lot of performance boats in this area (lots of fishing here) So, I should be good for at least the next few boating seasons....
