Turbine Cat Drive Instillation Help Needed!!!
Help needed!
I am rigging a 36’ turbine powered cat with a single Arneson ASD8 drive can anyone give me some advice with the drive instillation?
It’s an ASD8 10” chain box with BPM stern tube
I know the boat will need a centre pod fitted but I need to know the following
Does the drive stern tube need to be level with the bottom of the hull or angled down?
What height does the prop need to be in relation to the sponsons?
Cheers
Jason

You may not get much help here. Not many turbine boats around. That I know of there may only be one large turbine cat in the country rigged with only one drive. That is Howard Arneson himself on his Skater. Try looking him up and see if he can help.

Cheers Brad 5 years ago when on vacation in California I popped into Howard's workshop to have a look at his CAT,this is were I got the turbine bug.
Spoke to Rik some time ago about mounting the drive but it went out of my head as I have just got round to fitting it.Hopefully Rik might see this post and give me some more advice
Cheers

I do know this- there are engine mounting issues with turbine engines. Some of them will literally break in half if mounted as stock in a helicopter. They then blowtorch a hole thru the bottom of the hull. Ask Al Copeland.
There are ways to redo the mounting system so the engine is properly supported.
I second the suggestion on talking to Arneson. Also an ASD-8 isn't alot of drive on a 36' boat- especially using just one.

Hope these shots help you.
This is Jetset, a 40' Skater with Turbine power. I believe those are #8 drives with Rolla props.

A 36' Skater can handle two drives easily so I do not see a problem with one on a 36' Cat.

There is a 26' - 30' something ft single turbine cat on the Hudson River. It was in the NYC Poker run a few years back. I saw it leave Torches one evening. It was featured on a turbine boat website. Sorry I can’t remember what site. I think it might have been a Profile cat.
