oversea's scam?

I got a guy who wants to buy my boat who lives in sweden, this guy has a friend who lives in VA who will come get the boat. I told him i only will accept cash. The guy who wants to get it from VA has the same slow american speech accent. Why would people want to buy an overseas boat, and what am i overlooking if this is a scam?

i told him no deposit no nothing, if he wants it come get it with cash

There is a larger selection of powerboats to choose from in the US compared to Sweden (and Denmark where I live). So it is easier to find just the boat you are looking for in the US. Furthermore the US dollar is not so strong at the moment if you look at the exchange rate, so it might also be cheaper.

Re: oversea's scam?

Phazar454mag is right....my Mom lives in Germany and the exchange rate is hurting her right now. Taking the exchange rate into consideration Europeans can probably buy the boat in our "American" dollars and get the freight for "free". With fuel costing $6+ a gallon not many people have performance boats over there so the market is real thin.

Boomer.....Who's the guy from VA, where at in VA? If he's a boater, maybe we know him.

Re: oversea's scam?

Boomer, Magnus Wahlstedt (Mange on OSO) is the guy that bought my boat from me. I had no problems. He bought a pantera race boat from Bruce Serhoff here on the boards last year as well. All I can tell you is that he was good on his word to me. He wired the money to my bank just as he promised. I've never met him obviously, but my experience with him was good.

Re: oversea's scam?

I sold my Pantera to a guy in the U.K. I was a little leary in the beginning, but he showed up with CA$H. Turns out, he was a super nice guy. There is not much of a selection in Europe for them to buy from, so it is MUCH cheaper for them to buy here and have them shipped across the Atlantic.

We sell several boats/yr. to Sweden, Norway, Germany. Most deals go real easy....bank wires work great. We've even delivered the boat to Port of Baltimore for transport.

I thought you sold your Scarab to a couple from Finland ?
But I guess the main thing is that it all went smooth.

Re: oversea's scam?

Hi guys,

In fact Sweden is a very small country compares to US. I can say I know (more or less) 80% of the offshore-guys over here. If someone need to know If the Swedish buyer are a
serious person or not I can help. Send a email or a PM.
I have taken 5 boats from US the last two years and a lot of parts etc. And remeber when we do a money transfer It might takes about 2-5 days. If we do it by the creditcard you have the money at once.
Now I have bought 1 22 Stinger från Lance in ML and 1 22 Stinger from SickStinger. But my friends want more....
We looking for
222 Stinger bigblock w/trailer
22 Velocity bigblock w/trailer
Take out engines:
454MPI/502MPI/496HO/500EFI
Transom assys bravos/ Bravo drives/XR drives etc.

Thanks

Mange,

In case you didn't hear, they came and picked up the stinger on friday. Its on its way to sweden!

I might have a 454 carb available soon. There is someone here in maryland that i had promised it to first, but if he decides he doesn't want it, i'll let you know the details of it.

In Denmak and Sweden we don't have to register boats unless they are of a certain size. I think in Sweden the boat has to be longer than 12 meters and wider than 4 meters before it needs to be registred.
I guess the buyer only need a sales contract and the shipping paperwork for customs to prove it is his boat.
How you handle the title I am not sure. May be somebody else know what you need to do with the title.

Re: oversea's scam?

Wire transfers can't be scammed....once their funds are gone (verified in your account) they can't be pulled back or reversed... to be extra safe, set up a seperate (new) account to have the funds wired into so the other party only has account name/number for the specific transaction, then move it to your good account after the funds come in. (this is to combat giving out a good acct # for a potential fraud)

Re: oversea's scam?

I'm just curious about this, and have no intention to misdirect the thread.

What is involved in preperation of the boat for transport, in regards to HAZ/MAT items in the boat?? i.e. Fuels and fluids??
I'm sure fuel is completely drained, but what about other fluids, and MSDS's for these materials that are within the vessel?? Are these required by customs?
I deal with a lot of hazardous material Int'l shipments, but they are always air freight, and it get's sticky, and the paperwork is a bear.
What affect does this have to the boat shipment going by sea, I'm assuming, in a container, if any?

I don't want to scare anyone out of a transaction like this, it's just something I deal with in my work, and I'm curious how this would affect me shipping a piece of equipment overseas.

Re: oversea's scam?

I sold a boat to Sweden, I agree, wire funds only to a new checking acct that you can close afterward. I got the money and it was 1-2 months before the boat was gone. The buyer did everything. It just was gone out of my garage one day.

pismo10

what did you do with your title? if i dont sign it over to someone, what if the boat is used here in the states by the transporter or someone, and something happens

Actually it happend me last week. I transfer money to the man in Mass.I Had the reciept from my bank its on his bank account. Two days later I visit the cash bar and find the money back again....Dont know how it could happen. I did the transfer agiain so now he have the bread.

One funny thing with you americans. When we send e-mails with say 10 Q's about the boat/engine you wana sell. You just answer 1 of them..... is the trick to send one question per e-mail?? HA HA HA HA!!
Tell me about this phenomenon Iam so curious.

Phazar454Mag, thanks for reply about this title thing.

Thanks
Mange
