This is very sad....But this isn't the first 33' Powerplay that seen the top deck blown off......Does anyone know if this was ever a raceboat? Joe in Indy

This is a very tragic incident. Our prayers go out to all involved.

The boat in your picture is a Baja, not a Powerplay.

Marco boating victims' identities released
By Tracy X. Miguel

Sunday, January 7, 2007

A Naples man, his fianceé and her mother were identified this morning as the boaters killed in Saturday night’s accident off of Marco Island.

Meanwhile, a search was on this morning for the body of a relative, a Naples man, feared dead as the fourth victim in the high-speed boating accident off the shore of Marco Island.

State authorities this morning released the identities of the Naples-area boaters as:

The operator of the boat who died was Harper Simpson, 31, of 508 St. Andrews Blvd.

He was the fiancée of Meagan Molter, 22, of 15095 Summit Place Circle, who was killed in the accident.

Meagan’s mother who also was killed was identified as Linda Molter, 42, of 15095 Summit Place Circle.

Missing is James Molter, 20, of Summit Place Circle.

A survivor of the accident who has been taken to the hospital and released this morning was identified as Jennifer Molter, 16.

Also this morning, state marine investigators were trying to determine what happened and crews were at work on a salvage operation to bring pieces of the boat – a 32-foot Powerplay in at least two large pieces _ to shore at Marco River Marina.

This morning on Marco Island, a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokeswoman released the names of the victims.

“It’s a terrible, sad situation,’’ Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokeswoman Dani Moschella said. “This is a family that is devastated.”

The family members died when a boat traveling at high speed flew into the air, slammed back into the water and broke apart Saturday night off of Marco Island, a Collier County sheriff’s official said.

A search by the U.S. Coast Guard and Collier County Sheriff’s Office for the missing person resumed early today. A dive team searched for the missing person offshore Saturday until dark, when the search had to be suspended.

Operators of Marco River Marina said crews left about 8 a.m. today to begin salvaging pieces of the 33-foot speed boat that broke apart after going airborne and slamming back into the water around 5:30 p.m.

Thats a Baja, not a Powerplay.
No, I believe the boat involoved in this accident is a Powerplay.

It wasn't rough yesterday, at least not off of Bonita Beach & Ft. Myers Beach. Low tide wasn't until evening, and even then it wasn't much of a low tide.

It was not rough at all we were boating from shore out to about 30 miles and were commenting all day how flat the water was. The biggest swell we hit was maybee 2-3 but that was very rare. I will say that when he was running wiht us for the short period of time he did catch some small air but we never got the hull out of the water all day long.

Very, very sad to hear this.

I would imagine that the driver has had the boat airborne before, and knew what to expect, and this is not what he expected.
Very sad this happened.
