I just purchased a 26 Scarab -2001. It has a built 496 dynoed at 570 HP. Was looking for a little advise a far as to what prop to run. Max rpm is 5200 before the shut off. Boat weight is 5100lbs. Im looking a good safe prop to porduce top end with out going with the expence of a labbed prop. Any ideas of where to start with size and pitch ?

I would recommend a Bravo I . I would imagine that you could start with about a 26-28P Bravo I propeller, baseline and go from there.

A Bravo One prop is a 4 blade prop, and 26-28p is the prop pitch in inches. The pitch gives you the theoretical distance you will travel in inches after one revolution of the prop.

This link is for the Bravo 1 prop. You are welcome to call if you have any questions. There is a picture of the Bravo 1 on the left.

That boat should be able to run around 74-75 assuming the hp numbers were at the flywheel. I think that a good starting point would be a 26 Bravo 1 or a 27 Mirage.

Just my .02

a few more questions . Is a right of left had rotation standard on these ? Am I after a solid hub ? And any one have an idea what the standard gear ratio is in the Bravo 1 for this boat ?

Then again the benifits for 3/4 blade props.

If any one would be so kind to walk me threw this.

The prop that you have on there right now is the best source of info that you have right now. Run the boat with it and gather data. You need GPS speed, rpm and current prop pitch as your basics. You should also note how the boat handles (launch, turns, blowout, bow attitude, acceleration, porpoising). The 3 vs 4 blade thing is all about what your boat likes better. Does your boat have a step? You should probably check the owners forum and see what other people are running on boats similar to yours. Solid hub is going to be the right thing for you with your HP numbers. Right hand rotation is the most common on single engine boats. If the prop turns clockwise when you are looking at it from behind, then that's right hand. The gear ratio of your drive should be stamped on it (left side of the drive on the sticker). I am assuming it is a 1.5 which would be the most common for a boat like yours. If you can't find your gear ratio on you drive, then your performance data should make it pretty easy to figure out. I still think that the 26 Bravo 1 or 27 Mirage would be best (assuming it is a 1.5 drive), but seeing that Throttle Up gave you a link to the Bravo 1, I would try it first.

Thanks so much for that input.

The boat is doing 69 a 5100 rpm's with a mirage 25 p - I just spoke with the past owner. The issue Im ruuning into is he tried a few diffrent props and was not sure on the past sizes. He had the boat running 74 and tried to get more from the prop on once it was labbed it was slipping. so he got rid of that prop. I would be more then happy with 74 out of it some Im just tring to figure out what set up it was the had him there.
