He hit a rock or what? OUCH! :(
|
Not as bad as I thought...A good glass guy could fix that for under $2000.
Can't tell if any boat has rot without opening it.. |
I picked at the crack. Pulled some core out. It was rotton. At least in the area that was open. This was a balsa core. But it looked like brown mush.
Sorry Cord, but it did look bad. And then there's the other issues. cracked stringer, the fuel tank compartment issue.... |
ouch...
|
How old was this boat that the core was so rotted?

what is all that brown on all the cracks???
Jon |
man oh man, ouch that looks like it hurt :( :(
|
Ah, that brown would be the core Jon.
|
that is what I figured. Must have been a sponge as that is the only way it will do that. It takes a long time for water to make Balso do that!!! :( :( :(
|
I have alot of AL-600 Pre pregged balsa and Nytex Bi- directional material laying around for that CRACK if your intrested!! ;)

The boat was a '88 model. I've been told that there were a few years where they had some problems. Apparently several have failed in the same area.
I'm not really sure as to what caused the failure. Could it have been the cruiser wake that I hit earlier? I didn't have a yard stick along to see how much air I got, but the hang time was incredible! :D What I do know is that 5 miles earlier I had checked the oil and the bilge was dry. Could I have hit something? Possibly, although I didn't feel anything, there was a good chop out and I've been told that at speed you won't necessarily feel a strike. |
