My wife is looking at a potential job transfer opportunity- I know I can find work in my field(s) there- how's the boating? Obviously there's the river- what else? Do peeps trailer their stuff? is there affordable dockign with slips?

I live on a lake now with a covered private dock/lift etc- the boating change would be the perceived biggest drawback- could take up snowmobiling again

we live about 30 miles north of cincinnati and we go on down to lake cumberland where we have a summer trailer and keep the boat in a storage unit
its well worth the few hours of driving for the lake down there

I live in Cinic and I boat on the Ohio River which is great, there is East Fork lake.Brookville lake, and Lake Cumberland.....and theres also the great lakes but those are a bit far...

And yes peeps trailer their stuff around.....you see boats a lot .....and docking can be cheap or expensive depending on where you doc..

Cumberland is a unique place- essentially they dammed up a river that went through the mountains and everything filled up. There's about a thousand little fingers thay go into every nook and cranny in those old hills. About the same distance north you can boat Lake Erie and around the islands, then North into St. Clair and the detroit river. That's a hotbed of boating action- at least for the midwest anyway.

Lots of boating on the river but it's not exactly exciting.

4 hr tow North and you're on Lake Erie.
4 hr tow South and you're on Lake Cumberland.

I got rid of the boats before moving here, so I can't really speak for the river.
I can say that the river has a lot of commercial traffic (barges).
It depends on what you're used to in boating I suppose.
I grew up on Lake Erie, and then moved to Pittsburgh I thought the three rivers would be OK, but I hated it. I got spoiled on Erie.
I would imagine the river here would be better than Pittsburgh, or at least the pool I was in on the Allegheny.

Thanks guys, not sure my Cat would like Erie, but I could always keep my Pantera- that would be a blast there.

Cumberland sounds a lot like the lake i live on- 32 miles from my house to the hydroelectric dam- lots of fingers- 500 miles of shoreline.

My girlfriend and her parents are live in Cinci.

They have kept their boats on Erie for YEARS........

Cumberland is OK but you have to bring your own entertainment.

Ive boated on the river a handfull of times....dont really have much to say about it.

Erie Islands is where its at

Thrill is right.
I've been to Cumberland, and it probably is very similar to what you are used to.
But Erie is where it's at for this area. You've got the islands, you can run out of Cleveland, The Maumee river through Toledo was always my stomping grounds - plenty of bars and restaurants, and a run up to Detroit or St. Clair is easily doable in a one day run.
